Coming up in a few weeks will be our MAPA (Mount Arab Preserve Association) auction that we have about every 5 years. All the money made helps to keep the Adirondacks as healthy and as protected as possible. My contribution towards this auction is that I will be selling framed photographs I took of flowers in the mountains and some back home. I have worked with photoshop to enhance the pictures to make them look sharper and vivid, but i would like your opinions on which outweigh the others. The first three were done with my new cybershot digital camera(7 mega-pixels) which takes great color pictures, while the other two were taken with a very old Minolta X-570 from 1984. So I definately want some input on what you like about them, or what could be adjusted to add to the picture...

On a side note I was wondering what was the best type of photo paper/ink to buy to make these look as good as possible, so far I used a kodak photo glossy paper and it turned out terrible; all dotted and it never dries.

I like the pink flower and the yellow one myself. If you can, see if you can tone down the gamma on the orange shrooms a little, let the shadows come out some.

On a side note I have some wildlife pics from the Addy's I could give you if you would like to consider them?

Definately Em, that'd be greatly appreciated! I'm planning on adjusting them a little more, then later in the week I should hopefully have them framed and ready.

Well, here you go, hope you like them. I will attach a folder with all of them in it for you to down load if you like, rather then having to down load off one at a time off imageshack.

Oh, and btw, these were all taken with a Yashica FX3 SLR (circa '87) with various close up lens' and filters. (I really liked it when Kodak offered PhotoCD with negitives.) I have some old B&W's around here somewhere, but I would have to scan them, as they were from when I was in photography in high school (Pentax K1000 baby! those were the days, loved to develop my own stuff. Unfortunatly, I don't have room for a dark room. If we ever get our own house that is going to be one of the things I really really want.)

Wow Em, you've got some real nic pics in there... the spiders kind of freak me out, but the prickly flower/Lilly are my favorites. I think I'm going to bring 3-4 pictures, probably the yellow one and the pink one, but if it's alright with you I'd gladly put some of yours in the auction as well. Hopefully during that weekend I'll be able to take some hikes to find more unique flowers, but so far I haven't had too much time up there, but with the new camera I'm eager to explore. Thanks again for posting the pictures!

edit: Ah the black and white pictures... I found that the old camera took some amazing black and white photos, but I'm not sure they'd be a high seller. I find that they often are more interesting than color, but they're more difficult to perfect, color stands out, but the b&w have a deeper feel to them. The old camera also had many different lenses and such to work with, I found myself taking many more photos of one thing in many different ways, just so I could have maybe one good shot out of many. It was fun, but I'm a real big fan of this cybershot, especially since I'm less afraid it's going to fall in the water because of its sheer mass

No problem brother, infact I'm glad to help. I really hope the park stays as it is over the years so that my great great grandkids can go there and see the same things I have as a child.

Take as many as you like, just let me know the ones you use! (call it a photographer's pride, ) And, if its no trouble, just pen a small TJ on the bottom of the pic (on the back even) in the corner please.

That's fantastic Em! I'll make sure I keep you posted and will mark them with the finest pen I have! I feel the same way, If I was going to sell my pictures, I wanted to make sure they looked their best... so I plan on doing whatever I can to make each detail look perfect. They'll announce the photographer of each picture so if you want to PM me some info on where you live and where you took the pictures that'd be great.

(Not a fancy camera or such) Its somthing that i've wanted to do for a very long time and now I have the chance to this year.

I really liked the pink (1st picture) flower and the orange mushrooms. Those are really awesome! I was going to ask if there was a way we could buy them from you, but since its an auction....Its late, give me a break!

Very pretty pictures, both of you!

Im impressed. both of you have some very nice shots. My advise only, from a compasition standpoint, crop the orange mushroom shot slightly at the bottom. This should balance the picture and center the view on the main subject.

You guys are soooo lucky. Most of my pics are snow, ice, glaciers and the moon (besides family that is). I have an occasional spider or flower which I love taking pictures of the best. I have 1 shot of northern lights but always spend at least a gig or 2 every winter trying to get more. Maybe I need an SLR.
