First:

Second, if you ever decide to make red beans and rice:
1. The beans are best done starting the day before.
2. When you actually start putting stuff together, it's another 2 hours of simmering, stirring occasionally.
This is why I never made them before!

Two of my characters leveled, so it was good ...
Both the rice and the beans were a little crunchier than they should have been (not a total wash really but not quite "right"), but on the whole, edible.
The only issue now is that I have like a weeks worth of rice and beans ...
