Dru and Shan, I tripped over a mutator this evening that essentially makes player shields act like those in the Halo series. You start with a set amount, and when you don't take damage for a set period of time, you regen back up to that amount.
The difference with this mutator is that there's only one shield; it's not like in Halo where you can have several shields, and when you get hit all the way down, you lose one.
I finally cracked open UnrealScript, and I have the HaloShield mutator reconfigured and compiled as an ability under DruidsRPG200. And it works! (I swear I almost had kittens when it worked).
Granted, I borrowed the code unmodified for the inventory object (for the regen), but at least I understand what's goin' on now.
Anywho!
I was thinking that this could adapt well to the RPG environment, with the final Halo touch added. In other words, with this ability, your shield can never go higher than 50. And, after a set amount of time without being hit (five seconds?), it regenerates back to 50 (at a changeable speed). At level 2 of the ability, you can "store" a 50 shield pack and have two shields, which is identical to the Halo system. At level 3, you can store 3.
It'd be way too easy to make this ridiculously powerful, but I think it's at the very least worth a ponder.

That sounds interresting. Being a HUGE halo fanatic that sound like a cool idea.... But wouldn't that conflict with the "Sheilds Up" Ability Dru already has...?

I believe Shields Up is part of the UTRPG core. And yes, they'd definitely conflict.

As a little note, if memory serves, Halo 2's regeneration rate was ~3 seconds to start regen, and ~3.5 seconds from zip to full. That's a regeneration rate of 12.5 shield per second. That's 14.285714... shield per second. The times may seem ludicrous, but take a stopwatch and time it in your head.
Just my two cents. I was contemplating making a mutator like that, actually. I figured it would be fun .

I think that it would be cool.. It would be extremely helpful to low level players who dont have a lot health to begin with an it would give them alittle bit of extra help.. Would thier be anyway to make it where The Sheilds Up ability would be able to stack with that and you would be able to regen your sheild up to the amount you've had from sheilds up?

That, or perhaps halve the effect of Shields Up for the Halo Shield (check for the ability, and subtract the limit as needed).
Better yet, *make* Shields Up the Halo Shield. You can charge your shield up to the bonus given, and you can continue to get shield through pickups after that. Woo!

I think this is a good candidate for the upcoming engineer class

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

I've got some concerns with where you got the code. Since it came from someone else's mutator, they're the owner of the code, and I can't simply accept the patch.
There's a couple options.
1) You could rewrite the ability from scratch and submit it in this post.
2) I'll probably write it for the engineer class if you don't, so if you don't think you can rewrite it, just let me know.

I think that we should allow them to purchase multiple levels of the ability. Maybe the first level only regens their shield to 10, then lev 2, 20, and so on, perhaps all the way up to 150.
I dont think I'd drip shields in at 1/sec though... maybe 1 every 3 seconds...

The Halo shield system is similar to a shield drip ability, but not identical.
The main difference is that shield drip would be a constant regen for your shields, say...1 every 3 seconds, regardless of circumstances.
The Halo shield system does not regen while you are under fire. Instead, there is a pause after you are last damaged, then your shield regens at a faster rate than it otherwise would with a shield drip ability.

That concept sounds great to me!
