I hope this gets resolved soon! Hang in there Loc. I'm still concerned about whatever packages you downloaded from him. Could they still be active and providing a route for him to access you? I don't know enough but perhaps you may want to reinstall the game or check some ini files or somthing..

Whoops, that would mean the time zone I included in my abuse reports were incorrect (AZ here too). And I apologize, Desert, for my comment; if I had received a request to kick vote someone without any elaboration, I probably wouldn't have done so either. Thank you, Demon and Dru for taking action, and if you need additional information about any of this, let me know.

As for the package downloaded, I'm not sure which directory those kinds of things are sent by default; is there a folder within UT that holds them, or would they be under system downloads? I use a Mac, so it may be different than Windows users.

All downloads from servers are sent to the UT2004/Cache folder so clearing that out might do the trick

Problem fixed, we hope. The date and times were close enough for us to review the logs and find the offending person. They have been permanently banned from the server.

Shouldn't you work on trying to patch the vuln/whatever rather than just stopping the person who was first to exploit it?

Well done and hope this works. But ye, fixing the exploit would be a good idea from this point onwards i think

It was NOT an exploit, but a deliberate attempt to suborn the server and players. In other words, an attack on the server and members/players.

I cannot say any more due to potential legal issues.

Long story short, the hacker's awesome nerd rage hasn't died. Demon, I would like to know what players are supposed to do when the hacker gets on and no admin is around. Obviously, badgering him to the point where he has to go look up words in an online dictionary to understand what was said about him, as I did tonight, is not the proper course of action and I acknowledge my mistake (though it was pretty funny.) It won't happen again.

So, how do we handle him? As you told me in game, the important thing to do is take screen caps of the chat window if he says anything and PM them to you. That is well understood. Also, don't respond to any of his statements. Crystal clear; arguing with him was as pointless and one-sided as outwitting a piece of celery, anyway. But are we supposed to ignore him and continue playing like nothing is happening if he starts using the hacks I described in the first post, i.e., cheating? Can we vote kick him, or are we unadvised to do that either?

With your mention of "potential legal issues" it's clear that this issue is serious, and if you and Dru have a preferred course of action for players to take if he shows up and does his thing, please outline it here so we know what to do to help you two, and what not to do to make matters worse.

Also, you might be sick of me saying this by now, but here it is again for good measure: Thank you and Dru for the time and effort you've put into resolving this. I'm sure it's not an enjoyable task by any stretch of the imagination, but it speaks volumes about the integrity of this server and of the great people who play here.

I've contacted this individual's ISP, and placed blocks at the firewall level. If this continues, I'll report his abuse to up the food chain, to the ISP's ISP, and place some class B bans on their TCP range.

If you have lost many levels, you can message into unreal@disastrousconsequences.com with the information, and we will try to help in the coming week.

This takes a bunch of investigation, so if you can, please don't sweat minor losses of only a few levels.

Generally speaking, if someone is misbehaving/violating the rules, players DO have the right to kick that offending person. In this situation, I'm not sure that it will do any good.

As Dru said, this can take some time to resolve. In the time that I have played on the server, this is really the first time that we have had a situation like this. As such, we are asking that you do not play his game by giving him "cause" to crash the server. In short, don't exchange words/gestures/etc. However, the more bragging he/she does, the deeper they dig their grave eventually.
