Some people like little maps (Like me), others like big maps. Its just a question of opinion.
I dont think people choose the size of the map depending on how much people are on the server but with what kind of maps they have more fun in. (or are more comfortable with).

Some people prefer distance weps like the shock rifle and lightning which have an advantage on larger maps while others prefer small maps that rely more on twitch skills, splash weps and extremely fast wep switching. I prefer medium and small maps, personally. I don't mind large maps as long as they are relatively open. Large maps that are a maze of tunnels are a bit tedious.

Getting my triple if you are lucky enough wouldn't be very much use to you 320, as it's extremely rare that I would be out until nearing the end of wave 16. so POOPIE DIAPERS write back atcha

True true. This is why it's very helpful (usually on titan waves) when you yell out OHHHHH POOPIE DIAPERS! . That signals that a titan has done his job. I switch to my transloc and start zipping around looking for a triple.

Ah, there it is.

so mean, i feel used...

Indeed... used and tossed into the diaper pail! See if I give him any Easter presents!

Actually, it does bring back up an interesting topic. As a LW or medic player, when you die, what do you drop? At most one weapon and perhaps a few artifacts. As a LA player, what do you drop? Almost every artifact in existence. We just don't drop the "special" artifacts which allow maxing or making a max+1 weapon. Yet another interesting difference between LA and LW....

But back on the subject at hand...it does get frustrating to have folks (and it is not just the new players) constantly running in front of you, making it so that you cannot move the way you want to, etc. Or having that warlord zoom in on them only to get me with the splash. Or, blocking you in such a way that you take an almost full splash from that RAGE+10 RL where you had three rounds just firing with the triple triggered. Or the deemer. Almost makes one wish team damage were on at those times. But when life dumps a pile of horse manure on you... you can either just sit there or try to find a way of using it to plant roses.

Yes, sometimes we end up doing things by accident, or we do not see things off to the side of the screen, etc. I know I have been the one between a few times. Indeed, a night or two ago, I just missed flying in front of a deemer being fired (on Deck-17 IIRC) when I was jumping from point A to point B. But sometimes it gets excessive.

BTW...it has been mentioned about using it to learn to dodge... sometimes, when it happens, there is no way to avoid it, etc. We vote on way too many 1-on-1 maps, with no real amounts of ammo, health, etc. As Ooo said, it is all you can do to keep from bumping into one another, and it is a block or be blocked situation. A good indicator for whether the map is too small is when you find folks getting killed when trying to come in. In the past week, I think about a third of the maps I have played have had this problem, and I found myself running out of ammo on all my weapons (or having to drop a nearly empty weapon and pick up a new one).

Agreed.

Anyway, I think it's pretty cool when you've got a bunch of warlords on your tail and then -- OH NOs -- there's a player blocking the doorway!

You bust out the trans, ricochet it off said player's head into the next room and x-loc to safety while the warlords grind your teammate into a high protein lunch.

You go on to fame and fortune and marry the head chearleader and write the next great novel and live in a penthouse condo in manhattan.

And you get a pony, too. Two ponies if you want!

Or is it ponys? Dang, okay only one pony.

Seriously, it's awesome.

lol, I have to agree... sorry ooo, but I think it's just a part of the game, another obstacle. I kind of think it'd be weird having people run through me anyway but maybe that's just me. It makes me more aware of what's going on and having the trans bound to a key helps in getting away from monsters, so why not people. Well I guess I'm trying to say that it doesn't really bother me too much...

How can you knock something someone has built, before you have even tried it. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves, hang your heads down in shame

Well, I feel like I can knock it, which is why I asked the contributors to tell me about how they feel. If there was a substantial number of them who disagree, I might pull a 180... or even a full 360

My opinion on this mutator is quite strong.

1) Players do not need more reason to play tiny maps meant for 1-4 people. For some reason there's a trend to vote these in all the time. If you dont think a map is a good option. Put up a post in the Maps forum to have it removed. If you think a map is exploitable, also, head to the map forum.

2) I think players should be obstacles. Epic did set it up this way with something in mind... No one is asking for the ability to run through monsters, no one is asking for the ability to run through walls... why?

3) If I was going to put it up, I'd have all sorts of questions about how this mutator works. I'd have to figure out how it would interact with the RPG core and Druids RPG. I'd have to figure out how it interacts with the monster mover, how it interacts with the anti camper, and how it interacts with the myriad assortment of other mutators that we run.

Really, my biggest issue is that I'm not thrilled about putting something like this up so that so people can mass slaughter on tiny maps.

Am I off base here?

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

I must say in the family room map the fact that you can shoot through the legs of the table (and run through them too) bugs me. It's like the image is there but the physics aren't. Holographic legs.

As annoying as people getting in my way are, I accept that it's the way things are supposed to be, and would suggest it not be changed.

I am a LA player who dies somewhat often. Waves 6, 12, 15, and 16 in particular. I use up my MWM most the time, but the triple drops for your taking. Look for me in the death spam.

Nope!!!!

Take a look at the maps most played, they are the first in the voting HUD.

Rearrange the maps so the bigger ones show first, then see if the trend toward the small maps change.

If not

I know you don't care for them, Druid, but I pick the small maps because I like playing them. I think a lot of people do. Dismemberment is one of my favorite maps. Obviously, it's your server, though.

Yes, the small maps are crazy but I enjoy them a lot. You have to be lightning quick. Like you said, they're designed for a small amount of people and that means scarcity. With limited pickup maps, I design a route I travel on the tougher waves where I pass by the pickup spawns as safely and often as possible. I toss mines to protect myself. I always have my trans at the ready. I know and try to avoid the places where other players congregate so I don't bump into them or compete with them for kills.

Large, open maps, on the other hand, tend favor LA players. They often have a lightning or sniper. They can stand still and plink away at stuff with their shock and triple or shock and lightning. If there are two or three LA players on a large map that know what they are doing, the LW players spend the majority of the time running from already dead monster to already dead monster.

There are a few small maps that kind of "break" when there are too many people, such as Oceanic. Titans don't spawn and such. But I don't know of that many.

On the other hand, I don't like the onslaught maps. They bore me to tears. Once I was whining about that and another player told me to shaddap or leave. He was right, I was being an ass and only thinking of myself. Low level players, in particular, like onslaught because they can hop in a vehicle and earn a lot of exp (for them). Others just like the vehicle experience. It's all good. Different strokes for different folks.

I can tell you why I vote for the smaller maps. XP. You get a lot more XP per hour on the smaller maps than you do on the large ones. The large ones have the same amount of XP, but it takes a lot more time to search a map out looking for the monsters. Being a high level player with good surviveability I like the bonzai smash mouth small maps. It's fun, and it provides more XP per hour. This is kinda cheezy I know, but it's the truth. I suspect there might be a couple of other players out there thinking the same way I am. The only reason I would want to have the mutator in question is to help negotiate some of the pet obstacles. Souns like a ton of work on your end though Dru.

I really like small maps, because of the fast paced action. (Compressed, SpaceNoxx)

My favorites are not smallest tough. My best maps so far are Gothik2k4, BoomBoomBridge][, Osiris2. They are mid sized. But what is in common in those maps? Perfectly well organized pickups. And all guns.

On ONS maps i just take a break. They are too long to play. And ive never been able to play efficiently on ONS maps

The maps i hate the most is those without ammo, or missing Flak (Morpheus3), or missing Sniper/Lighning because as a LA we caint get any HeadShots.

All in all, i think its best just to keep all maps, so everyone can be happy

I play for the enjoyment of playing, not the XP. So it doesn't matter which map I play.

You mean I really am important? How I feel when I'm drunk is correct?
