Does this include failed attempts? If so, I may take up too much space.

are we talking love as in kindness of you heart, or love as in romantic love?

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

Could we get a count of failed attempts?

Well, to start with, I dreamed of my love at the age of 12. Yah, you laugh, but really I truely did. I didn't know it at the time, just as I didn't know the beautiful woman with honey brown hair and mysterious, deep rockey brown eyes.
Then we met. Age 15, she was 17 and we were still in school. Actually told my father about my dream, and how the girl in my dream reached over and snatched the novel I was reading right out of my hands and intoduced herself. (And yes, I sat in unabashed awe of her beauty, and couldn't say a word to save my life.) I also told him then and there that this was the girl that would be his daughter in law. Well, as things happen, my mother was told as were my sisters. This was not turning out well. (you have to understand my family is pretty rough on an emotional scale, and they have no mercy. Esp my mother, who was seeing her "baby boy" {I'm the last of 3 brothers and the youngest} waste himself and his life on some, to put it mildly, flousy.) To make a long story short, time to elope! (actually anniversary is on the 17th of Oct. Some one please remind me on like the 15th or I'll be a dead man. LOL) An then there was no one. (Did I fail to mention that, umm, the wedding night celebration was a little early and , umm, yes it only takes once to make an heir. )
Well the family was seething (with the exception of my dad and oldest brother who supported us in our endevours.) My Mother flat out said "her or your family, choose!" Well, seeeeee yaaaaa. (I, too can play the emotional head games that this family thrives on, but they found out I'm much better at it then them.) At about the time of my son's birth, they came around. There have been uneasy times with them still, but they are kept in line because they know they need me, and though it sounds callus, I can drop them like a bad penny.
So, what did I do for love? I swore my entire life, love, friendship, loyalty, body, mind and soul to a woman named Venus, of whom I had dreampt and continue to dream about even though she is right next to me every day. Regrets? Not a single one, except that I have nothing more to give but that which I already have.

Wow, Em. That was so cool. Thanks for sharing. Remind me to remind you about your anniversary.
As for me, I have a couple failed attempts as well....maybe more like two wastes of time, but who cares? Forget love! Let's fall in chocolate!!

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO what a ride!"

Ummm, hold on, let me think this one over really quick. [thinks to self] "carry the two over, mulitply that by six, and square that number."
Hmmm, that's a lot! I'd actually prefer not to get into it. I think I would depress everyone here and you would see the number of people actually playing drop down to nothing because everyone would be too sad to play. Of course, that would mean more points for me then!!
