I haven't seen a thread yet about maps. Could just be I'm not looking hard enough. At any rate I'll start it off with the suggestion we drop SAE. There is a spam bug in the map that causes a message to pop up across everyones screen and in their chat logs. Also adding CTF Hall of Giants would be great, as soon as I find it I'll post it. There are a ton of suggestions to be made here so I'm gonna save some for everyone else.

There was that thread about dropping Gael (sp?) just to annoy XChosen... but other than that...

I saw a map the other day (yes, yes, on another server, I know... mea culpa) that was a re-make of a Quake3 map called "Camping Grounds" (I think it was Q3DM6) and it was pretty cool. Maybe not for 20 people, but about 10 was pretty intense. I couldn't find it in Mapraider though, so I'm not sure if it is widely available. Anyway, that woud be my request if we are requesting

drop: gael and stargate

gael is too small for 10+ players. in addition to there not being enough weapons...

and stargate has the room that you can walk through the wall, and clim over the other wall in the same room.


like who made that? how could some dude let a map out with that many errors??

Your all dead to me.

Gael is a test of will! You have to want to stand against the hordes without hiding behind your mothers skirt. Stargate does have it's errors but it's one of the better looking maps around. As far as the errors go. Don't go through the wall or jump over the ledge. Worry about killing the monsters and not whether the guy was a perfect map maker.

I'd really like to see alot less maps on the list then there are. Plus a new tested map from time to time. Me and Spike played on a server with Toy-story to as the map. That was pretty cool. What about with we got a list of all the maps and voted which ones to keep and which to pull from the server list?

The X-room (or X-Files based room - not sure of the name really) was pretty cool too. Difficult (especially in Skilled mode) but good.

And yes, Toy Story is very well made - it has built-in hiding places and secret (or non-obvious) teleports that took me a little bit to find but overall a very well made map.

I like ONS (onslaught) maps with vehicles. I'm not good with vehicles, but they usually have the Avril on those maps. Also they're usually huge - like Torlan which is great for long-fighting. All styles of playing are accomodated - then it's balanced out when the warlords come out and take to the skies. Now that's a sight to behold.

I like the ONS map with a big dragon inside a building - this might be CTF possibly. Also like CTF or BOMming run maps - just big maps I like.
I realize that a lot of these have errors because they were never intended as INVasion maps - with monsters getting trapped at odd places, or under the ground. Anyway, usually the minor errors are balanced out by the playability factor on these large maps.

I was playing Gael the other day (on DC) - I was surprised that it was playable. This is the enclosed 2 floor map w/rockets & lightning gun only right? It works great for melee & mid-range distance fighters.
It may be difficult to finish wave 16, but it's quick action and enjoyable.

There's several maps I've played on other server (mainly Sky's) that are quite fun for invasion. I believe most of them are sHoK's (or something like that). They're usually some kind of room (dorm room, bathroom, garage, living room, Tv Store, etc). It sounds corny and stuff, but they're rather fun if you play for longer hours and wanna get take a little break from the same old maps (ya know.. the ones we play over and over and over and over......


and over....

and over.....


Also, there is a map called DM-Protection.... It's horrid. Many holes and invisible walls (you get somewhere to snipe and can't shoot out). Might wanna look at it and perhaps remove it (or see if there's an updated, cause the map itself is big enough to be fun and kewl looking)

Prison!!! Well, kind of kidding reallly - I've never seen a map with so many secrets/easter-eggs/whatever. It is BIG and complicated but can be fun.

This might be a crappy idea, but perhaps we could remove all the 1on1 maps. I mean, the server is hugely popular and when everyone gangs in those maps, it's way less than fun. Of course that's my personal opinion, but hey =) isn't that what this is for?

Dru, I heard you upped the map cycle to 35 or so, I'd love to see it higher than that. It's really boring to play the same old maps over and over when there are so many more on the server already that are hardly ever played.
