Is it just me or does it seem like anything goes on DC these days?

  • base destroying
  • vehicle / turret stealing
  • cursing - in English and several others (obviously you can't use the word... but it's either acronyms or a space is used to bypass the filter: s pace
  • abusive language towards pretty much everything

It used to be that DC players would kick folks if an admin wasn't around to take care of it. Now there's never admin around and the players are so apathetic it doesn't even matter.

I'm trying to play XE right now so I can give Szlat some good feedback... and I can't even do that because everytime I make something to use, it gets stolen.

    It's sad.

Dru, Shant, Szlat.. someone... anyone... please do something. Please give some of the folks that have been here for a good length of time now and play on a regular basis some type of admin control to take care of these types of issues. What I'm seeing as a consistent basis now... I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want my child to be a part of.

Acyd, if you see someone breaking the rules, please report them. We can't solve problems we don't know about.

And if an admin is playing, you need to let them know asap.

I've reported one situation that was really bad, but I can see I sent it to the wrong email address.

I have no problem reporting them and I do use the in-game reporting as needed. I guess I just feel like I'm a whiner or something because when there are people in the game that are regulars... they just ignore it and do nothing (versus kick-voting). *shrugs*

The problem with kickvote is players are too nice and don't want to make waves.

Yep and that actually causes more problems

I just re-sent the email to the abuse address.
    (from 09/04/10).

I guess it's just hard for me to believe that some of the folks that seem like rock pillars on the game (high level, been here a long time, etc) aren't trustworthy enough to have some kind of low-end ability to kick or kick/ban the bad apples.

With winter coming on, more of the admins will be back on. In the meantime, let us know via the admins notification page.

Ideally a few trustworthy active players should be "mods", ie they can kick players from the server for that particular game on their own and nothing more. At the moment admins don't play or spectate enough, and as a result moderation is too "reactive" not proactive; as for reporting, surely you can only really view chat logs to try to gain proof of any rules broken, ineffective when piecing together past incidents of base destroying or other such shenanigans.

You would be suprised as what we can see on the logs, as we have more than just chat logs to look at.

I think the fear is that there might be a lot of overzealous moderating from grumpy old "rock pillars", which would suffocate the userbase and discourage the newbies.

Fair enough. If someone makes a report, does it just wait for an admin to log in to get read, or is there a speedier system?

Hey, I resent being called a grumpy old rock pillar, even if it is true.

On a more serious note, most players and admins lean over backwards to avoid being over-zealous in the enforcement. Most immediate enforcement actions comes from language, player names, and player actions that harm the gameplay/players.

For example, if a player uses a turret or vehicle without the owner's permission and keeps using it despite warnings, that player gets kicked for the remainder of the map. If it keeps up, then he/she will be banned.

Immediate bans for player aliases (1 warning to leave, change name, and come back in), foul language (1 warning), and other actions that has been detailed in other posts (sometimes no warnings).

hey I was a n00b once to, and was nicely reminded to watch my language, and I appreciated it.
I'm still here 3 years later, and I'm fine with suffocating our userbase if it keeps our server clean and friendly

    Same here.

I get upset quickly when it's the same people over and over. It's not the true newbies. But I also know some try to play off that they are true newbies (but they don't realize that I've already banned their regular name from my personal voice chat, thus... it tells me anytime that CD Key logs in that they're banned from my voice chat) It helps to erase the doubt in my mind.

As Freddo said, it would be nice to have some Moderators in place. The admins do a good job when they are on. We just need something in place for during the actual game play. Reporting is good and I will do this... but it's not real easy to capture it either and I'm sure admins would appreciate concrete proof.

Alice: What a funny watch! It tells the day of the month, and it doesn't tell what o'clock it is!
The Hatter: Why should it? Does your watch tell you what year it is?
Alice: Of course not, but that's because it stays the same year for such a long time together.
The Hatter: …which is just the case with mine.
