Ugh - I have no desire for a tourney because I spent several years (since Quake) in a clan doing tourneys and competitive ladders. I got burned out and even removed Q3 (and later Q4) from my machine. I used to play mostly instagib CTF and it was a lot of fun - but my favourite setting was at a LAN party, where pings were not an issue. Never liked 1-vs-1 even though I entered many tourneys and did OK but I gained tremendous respect for those at the pro/semi-pro level - having played against some of the best regional players of that time.

A fun tournament would be CTF or random 3-vs-3 but as stated before, if three good player end up in a team, you can pretty much predict the winner... except that we have many more than six great players, so it could be very interesting. I would have no clue as to how to play deathmatch (or team DM) using regular weapons in UT - as our clan never played UT so I've only played RPG! No joke

After exclusively playing mid/high level RPG for some time, especially on a server as difficult as DC, Regular UT04 moves in slow motion, and all the weapons feel extremely powerful.

Honestly, RPG is a lot more difficult than straight invasion or straight play (at equal level) when the difficulty is tuned right like it is on DC.

Very true, most kills is regular UT04 are one-shot kills, thus the winner of a match is the one with the best moves, quickest on the trigger, and the most accurate shot.

I didn't mean to be harsh, if that what it is. But realistically, any one-on-one, or even a three-on-three, deathmatch tournament is gonna be uneven, no matter how hard we try to balance the players/teams. I guess I'm scared that if we went that route, it could cause some hard feelings among some of the more competitive players in the community.

But at the same time, I do ( ) realize the innate desire to see just how good or bad you are compared with other players in the community on a level playing ground, with no or minimal difference in the levels.

I agree, have you ever seen the complaining that goes on when we try to play a round of team deathmatch on the server????

Then again a lot of that complaining is me.........*grumble* stupid lightning bolt thingys

I don't think that I heard any grumbling the other night when I was on and we played TDM on PacMan. Of course, the random nature of the weapons an LA player can get, vs. the sure fire of the Engineer, or the Medic's being able to self-heal, etc. meant I got my six toasted. But on the flip-side, if I get lucky and get a piercing (or better yet energy) RL or Flak, or one of those or a vorp shock... I instead end up doing some toasting. On the larger maps, things even out a bit more (loved picking people off with the sniper on the ABC map last time we did TDM on it).

Maybe once I get my network down at the other house back into a sane configuration (instead of having to use a build server as my FW, and have both proxy servers down there), I might consider opening up the Spaceport to some DC folks for an evening.

Yes laugh it up but the truth is I never realized just how devastating those bolts/beams were until playing against you in a TDM. I can only hope that perhaps a high level damage reduction will soon be able to somewhat repel one of those things(I know this will never happen) which is why I said "hope".

Now if I had piercing Ultimas, I could make you pay for killing me
