started watching the new Battlestar Galactica the other day (AWESOME)
and found some images of the old cylons remade so thought I'd give it a try

Still prefer the old centurions to the new but that's probably because I remember the old series so well
and this one will be a looong time completing as I want to do it well

well mostly complete now need to look at in game a little more thoroughly to work out some bugs in the legs
after that need to map the skin , paint it (lots of chrome ), and good to go
really hoping to get the eye thing right too, and maybe even a custom voice pack just need to find a Cylon voice effect to use

hmm is the head too small ?

I would probably make the head a little bigger personally, but on the other hand I can't do any of that so..... there's a reason you're doing it and not me

Your proportions are a bit off. You could try putting the original cylon image in photoshop with grids on, and count off how many units tall the head is in relation to the body, then make sure the ratio is the approximately the same on the new model.

A few other observations from comparing the two photos: The belt/abdomen should be recessed into the body and the upper ridge is part of the chest whereas it seems to be part of the head on your model. The proportion of the back of the skull to the face should be greater as well. The shoulder 'pads' should be below the upper chest in a sloping line, and below the jaw line.

Sorry to come out of nowhere and be overly critical, but I've been following your stuff since you made those Futurama models. The proportions were pretty far off on those two, but a good effort overall. I think with some honest feedback, you could make some great stuff!

always good with critic that's why i posted pics it's good to get a different perspective on the work it's easy to overlook some things when your concentrating on others

some of the issues you list are related to attaching it to the skeletal mesh so I'm hoping to correct some once I get it animated/in game then I can see how they attach and adjust accordingly
the belt may be victim to animation tearing so may change or disappear altogether
so now the frustrating part looking at it in game and having to change things but for a change I am prepared for the ugliness
wish me luck I'm hoping to just have to make adjustments and not wholesale changes

well almost ready to skin/paint
thinking of making shoulders a little larger tho
belt was victim of the poly purge new "skirt"will be like in back pic

changed the arms and legs a bit and may adjust the face some yet

seems to line up to the skeletal mesh nicely . Which is a HUGE relief

after all the fun stuff comes the tough stuff mapping the skin and then painting it so I'm hoping to have it all done next weekend

Starting to look better. Still needs a bit of adjusting though. I think the head needs a bit more volume on the crown. Compared to the reference pic, his 'eyes' should be approximately halfway between the crown of his skull and the mouth apparatus. Currently the ratio looks something like 2/3 face 1/3 forehead. Looking good though!

Edit here's a good profile shot with a comparison of the remake 'classic' cylon and new cylon.

I found a ton more images at the source - the blog of a guy called 'darth mojo' who works on visual effects on the show.

There's also some really cool Star Trek ship renders on the site, since he also worked on Voyager's visuals.
