well lots of new additions/deletions


I'm very happy at how its turning out still need to adjust the head,and calves/feet and cut down the poly count , before I map and skin
but so far looks great in game

oh they were a huge help so much of the design was shown in those
I'm hoping not to get carried away with the model and get down to skinning soon

OK model is complete looks good in game
some action shots prior to skinning (just chrome so far)

gonna try and do a subtle team color as well and cylon commander (golden )

Looks good, let me know if you want any help with the skins. I've got a few ideas on how to do the glowing led.

Edit:

By the way, when you start wrapping the skin, is there any way you can leave parts of the limbs with their own textures (not symmetrical.) I think it would be cool to do a battle damaged skin, but if all parts of the limbs are mirrored on the skin it's harder to do convincingly.

For example, this is something that's still WiP on my hard drive:



I couldn't do anything like a scrape that starts on the top of one leg then ends on the middle of the other because both of the legs are mirrored. I had to make more subtle smudges instead. Mirroring, of course, lets you give more 'real estate' to the textures, so it's a good technique. It would just be cool if you left a few parts unmirrored.


And I was thinking a little more about how to do the LED. When you set up the face texture, it would help if you did it with a separate detail for the eye area like in this mockup:



After that it would be easier to get the LED moving without bleedthrough to the rest of the face.

actually I've done the head as 2 difff IDs the head falls under "chrome" or body tex

and the "eye" with the head or painted tex , and the movement is part of a combiner , a neat little trick

separating parts can be a nuisance as they take up a fair amount of space and for the most part the smaller details really go unnoticed in game
you'll noticed I got rid of some polys by deleting ones I thought go unnoticed for the most part (cept in screen shots) the shoulder pad in see through from underneath
I'll post some pics of the rough skin I have finished (tomorrow I hope) still have a few more things to work on (painting is not a strong part of my repertoire just yet)

initial skin some refining to do yet


need to "blur"the eye a little more
and add some shape lines to the chrome parts and I'll probably release
but I may go back and try to cut some more polys as it breaks down quickly as you get farther away and UT adjusts for distance

separated forearms and calves as separate pieces little more skinning to do (legs)
then I'll release hopefully by the weekend

if you want them jefe I can give you then skin maps when I release and you can so a skin if you want

I'd like that. Would you mind waiting a bit to release though so you include the second skin? It shouldn't take me more than a few days to have a damaged skin ready.

I've mainly worked on the specular effects so far, adding some dustiness and a supporting alpha layer. I set up some preliminary team skins too.

Bit of an update:

Cylon commander


Blue skin


Not sure if I want to keep team-colored eye LEDs or change them back to red.

Green and red shiny skins are also done. I have a few more things to do to the body skins.
