Ok, so I just finished this book and found out they're making a movie out of it (comes out in December) and I'm calling dibs on the review. Hahaha!!! Has anyone read Twilight by Stephanie Meyer? HOOOOLY CRAP - I'm completely hooked on it. In fact, I lost a lot of sleep this week staying up reading and I'm dancing around like an idiot waiting for the 2nd one to come to my nearest library!

Here's the trailer:

Wooo, I can't wait until winter and I hate the cold...

I'm going to pick it up - saw a review (on TV) of the book and it looked interesting - unfortunately I have about 6 books that I need to read before that one (work/busines-related stuff)

Yes, the sequel for Iron man was not "flaunted" in your face, but let's just make sure none of you leave until after the credits!
Took my 11 year old boy, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Favreau will no doubtedly become one of the best directors of his time after all is said and done. He has Tarantino's love and respect for all things film, and everything that has come before him.
I also think Watchmen is going to be a good flick. Let's wait and see!

There is going to be a TV series of Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind. It is the first book of his Sword of Truth series, and considered some of the best adult geared fantasy of the last two decades. It will be produced by Sam Raimi and be 20 parts. I think it will end up on either Sci-Fi or FX...hopefully they get it right, and with 20 episodes I think they can. The book is a bear in length, and has quite a bit of detail.

Keep in mind, its for young adults. The girl is your typical damsel in distress....constantly. It got annoying after a while, but for some reason, I still couldn't put it down. I got the 2nd one from the library today.

Just took the wife & kiddo to see Horton Hears A Who on Saturday! I loved it! There was only one part I thought was out of place (the anime scene) but otherwise it was fantastic. The kiddo loved it as well and it held her attention through the whole show so yeah, for anyone who knows our little girl, thats huge!

Animation was fantastic, they caught the Seuss feel very very well, the voices were excellent and not over-done, and the dialog was perfect, tying direct rhyming lines in from the book as well as moving the story along with plain english. So yeah, we'll be buying it, if not seeing it again in the theaters before it comes out!

10/10!

cheers.

Cloverfield:

Ehhhh, it was ok. Rented this because I had an inkling to check it out. I went into it with really low expectations. The whole 'home movie' take to it wasn't as bad as I had heard, though. The acting wasn't the greatest, however. CG wasn't the greatest either. The movie is pretty short. I think it was something like 1h14m long. Basically what the movie is an American version of a Godzilla movie. In fact, that is what the director or producer said about it in the special features. Nothing is answered, though. You aren't really meant to understand what is going on.

Yeah, I basically heard if you are a film buff, that Cloverfield was very poor. In this day and age of hand held video I guess there is a market for it, but if you want acting, plot and competent film making you have to look elsewhere. I will get back to you all, but the in thing now is Japanese and Korean horror, which has all the above qualities. They tend to use the creepy kid, and ghost themes a bit, and also shy away from more obvious shock tactics for a more Hitcockian style. Many Asian film makers are fans of older American cinema, and their rich culture provides them with some interesting substance and plot mechanisms.

Of course the Ring (Ringu) and Grudge comes from Japan horror....but some more recent Asian horror I need to check out is:

Box, Audition, Pulse, Ichi the Killer, Dark Water.

If you like thrillers, Oldboy is BY FAR one of the best Korean films ever made (#110 all time on IMDb), and a guaranteed winner for anyone who wants a film that has the flash of Tarantino, the plot twists and mechanics of Hitchcock, superb stylized acting, and the vengeance feel of Deathwish. The director Chan Wook-Park specializes in vengeance films, and has become a true master in the art of film, that any novice or expert fan of the medium will enjoy. If you prefer light comedy and chick flicks, you might want to stay away from the Park films though - they are pretty heavy psychological thrillers.

I can't remember the name of it, but I saw most of this Korean movie. It had to do with some monster that came out from a river that goes through Seoul, South Korea. It goes around eating people or something. It was pretty wierd. A girl at my work is from Korea, so she had this movie.

Is the film you are referring to called The Host?
