hmmm, well this has inspired me to get tickets and see the play as soon as possible again! However, from watching this I've found out a few things. One is that I'm not a big fan of Sarah Brightman playing Christine, just odd... and if I had to choose between Antonio and Butler.... I'd pick neither . Sorry, but both accents are prevelent and don't sound like the phantom I saw. Antonio doesn't try and hide his as much, and he's an amazing singer, but he accents some words that make him less like the phantom. Then there's butler who also is good, but he tries to hide his accent and it cuts back on the power the phantom gives off during the song. Both are very talented, just don't fit for me. So my opinion... Go See the Play!!!! You won't be disapointed! So put me in the tally for neutral

edit: choosing may be easier if Butler did a theatrical version as well, it always sounds better in theater than on a movie imo.

Again, I've seen the play! On Broadway! In Manhattan! Can you all tell that I was very excited? It was one of my life goals and I got to do it! I'd love to see it again if I get the chance.

Thanks for posting the video, Pyro!

Ok, I just watched the movie and I have to take back my comment on Antonio's accent coming out. It did come out a bit.

I still think he would have been better than Butler. More powerful of a voice, better looking, etc. etc. Blah blah blah. I don't know what it is. When I watched the movie, I just wasn't impressed with him. I'm finished ranting. Sorry Pyro.

I watched them both and I think when I saw it in San Francisco, it was better. I wish I could remember their names, but I can't. If I have to vote on these two, though, I'll choose Antonio. Sorry Pyro, but Butler just doesn't impress me. Maybe you can let me borrow the movie this weekend and I can play it on my stereo to get a better listen. Antonio just seems better able to carry his voice. It sorta sounded like Butler was out of breath when he sang or something.

Well, I've seen the Phantom movie and I must admit, I thought Butler did a fantastic job! I dig Antonio but for the phantom, I dont think he's got it. Sounds a little drunk in the video. So yeah, thats my vote!

cheers.

I saw Phanton of the Opera at Playhouse Square in Cleveland. I don't even remember who played Phantom that night - it was the understudy, and the review in the paper the next day said he was better than the regular guy!

The performance was absolutely fantastic. Of what I've seen, it ranked near the top alongside Fiddler on the Roof (a strikingly brilliant performance in Stratford), Rent (Playhouse Square), and Carmen (EJ Thomas Hall).

Thanks for the video link. That's a refreshing end to a heck of a week.

I loved the phantom, but I was young when I saw it, so I think I'd appreciate much more now. However my favorite just above phantom is Les Meserables, it's an incredible story and the music is phenominal... but I guess we all agree that the play tops everything else!

Sarah and antonio is a different sort of production; it's not particualrly fair to judge them against the movie. Based on that though, I am not impressed with the antonio and sarah, they are lacking in much of the finesse and vocal tact required to do a live opera as such. The movie is better on that scale, but that's superficial since with a movie it's been sound matered and edited to create a very specific sound.

So, I pick neither.

I don't think Butler was bad and I didn't know that he didn't have a singing background. Now that I know that, I will say that he did a really good job for someone that just got up there and started singing.

I'd love to see the play on broadway. Always have ever since I heard Phantom of the Opera. Ther was an AMV not too long ago that was sung by the male and female singer from Nightwish. It was based off of Final Fantasy but they made it out to be a Phantom of the Opera thing. I wish I could post it, but I dont want to get in trouble for posting where I saw it. If it's ok with Dru and Shan I'll post the file up on Megaupload or Filefront. It's not innappropriate, does not have any profanity or nudity. But I just want the clear by them before I post it.

Phantom on Broadway was awesome. I went with my theatre class from high school. We had one day where we could pick any matinee. I was so excited when I saw Phantom! 3 people out of the entire class saw it. There were going choices though. I wish we could have picked more than one afternoon matinee that trip.

Anywho, Insane, as long as your link doesn't lead anywhere or contain anything "questionable", it will be fine. I've heard some Nightwish songs before and I'm curious to see what its like.

Well if it's not questionable I'll post it then.
