Happy Birthday, may your life be long and fruitful, expecially if you don't fry your brain out on UT and UT03/04/07.........

On a serious note, I didn't get my license until I was 18. My pops basically said I could get a license whenever I wanted, but if I wanted to drive his car I had to pay for my own insurance and top off the tank every time I used it. On top of that, he assured me that I wouldn't be driving it more than one or two times per week.

So, financially I was "priced out of the market". All my friends had licenses, though, and most had cars so it was no big deal. However, nearly every single one of them was involved in some sort of accident within a year of their license. A few guys in school were known to have had 3+, and this guy named Bud had 6. SIX!

I myself was involved in two with friends during that time. One where we were forced into a gaurdrail on the highway at high speed and the other involved a rollover. Both could have easily been prevented if my friends had been more aware and defensive. They're both still pretty lousy drivers, though, didn't learn. I guess it's in the genes.

As for me, seeing the costs involved and seeing everyone else get in stupid wrecks, I ended up being a pretty safe driver.

Same here, learned to drive on the farm with the "deuces" and tractors, but no road driving until I had my own car and paid my own insurance.

Was he at 40 mph and she at a dead stop??!! I sure hope she got x-rays and is checking in with a doctor weekly, if so. A former girlfriend of mine got in a wreck like that, thought she was okay and a month later was in so much pain she was bed-ridden for about three months straight. Her neck and back were so permanently messed up she had an operation to remove some of her... uh ... chest. The weight was causing too much strain. She was a triathlete and aerobics instructor and it totally sidewalled all her fitness activities for 2+ years.

Very good chance of neck injury in those accidents that may not show for up to several weeks. It's not being sue-happy to get checked out thoroughly, you just don't take chances with those types of accidents ever.
