I've been noticing that sometimes that player voice chat on the server gets way off topic. Sometimes a few people will have entire conversations that have nothing to do with the game, gaming, etc.

Wow that's rough... I guess I'll have to quit using voice or text chat altogether then.

It gets a little irritating when the rest of us have to endure people talking on end about where they went on vacation, which spyware software to use, their relationships with the oposite sex.

I rather like hearing what my friends are up to. I'd miss it if I didn't hear about it

Frankly, I play UT to get away from the real world, not to be reminded of it by a few people who use the voice chat on the server as a means to socialize online...

I kinda rather think of it as a way to hang out online, socialize, and have some fun squishing the bugs.

You're certainly entitled to your own opinion here, however nothing that you?ve described in this post is voice chat abuse as far as I?m concerned.

If you're looking for a place that's all about the game and not about the people, you're probably looking under the wrong stone here.

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

i was about to post a long paragraph in an attempt to better express my point, but at this stage it's moot. i'll take the time out of my game to block whoever's abusing the chat. i certainly don't want behavior on the server to degrade to the point where someone has to shout or ALL CAPS "knock it off."

Neither do I. Was behavior on the server degrading to this point? If so I'd appreciate it if you followed the example of how to report abuse so that the administrators can determine what actions to take.

I also enjoy the voice chat. Granted, there are some people who get obnoxious, but they're everywhere. The good thing about playing online is that you can block them out if you so desire. Too bad that's not possible in life.

I've made a couple buddies since I bought the game and joined the forum. Some of them being in different states, I can always hear new and interesting things about them with friendly conversation in game. It's fun! That's just my opinion.

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO what a ride!"

Hello:

Last night I was on the server at that time and I was asked about my cat?s recovery from surgery and answered. I cannot type fast and get killed when I do so I use the voice chat. I will not ignore a question directed at me I was brought up with better manners. As far as dating goes there was none it was people taking the Mickey out of Aqualung and me being friendly. He would like to visit Canada and some people were having fun with it so I set the record straight. As far as the spyware question I asked if there was spyware in Yahoo messenger? This question I asked was to use Yahoo instead of the chat in UT.

Your complaints are about me not the others so please direct them to me or report me to the administration don?t spoil the fun for the others. I think the folks last night had a great time and there was lots of laughter. Many times I have been on the server and heard people talk about other items than gaming. And the subject may have been of no interest to me but I fiound it enjoyable. The chat is at the busy times not just in the wee hours of the morning when there are only a few of us playing.

You forgot to mention the talking was stopped when you complained. The talking took a few minutes to end but eventually died off and the subjects you disliked ceased.

If you find the topics offensive I apologize for the subjects but not for answering a friendly question by my fellow players.

I think playing games on line is socializing. If we had typed the information would this not have been socializing?

I enjoy playing on this server and abide by the rules. Sometimes I make mistakes.

The_Shrike, You've upset no fewer than 2 of our players, one of our contributors, and one of our admins. You've made them all feel like they did something wrong.

Now that I know the other side of the story, let me set the record absolutely straight:

Let me make this perfectly clear so that all can see.

There has been no abuse of the rules here.

Once again we try to run a social & family friendly server. If that's not your cup of tea, fine, you're still welcome to play if you obey the rules.

We wont stand for this type of public trial on our server.

That may seem a bit hypocritical, considering that I've now moved the focus of this trial to your doorstep, The_Shrike, but you've left me little choice now that you've had half of the server watch and subscribe to this thread.

This thread will be deleted in 24 hours. If someone genuinely feels we need a dialogue on voice chat etiquette for the entire server, and not targeted at any one individual, they're welcome to start a new thread with that subject.

Well said Druid. The only reason I never Replied to this thread is because I disagreed with it from the start. As long as the chat doesnt get offensive or way outta hand I never cared.

And Miss Kitty I heard you talkin about your cats and it didnt bother me in the least. As it has been stated this is a social server. So hope to see all the time.

I for one rarely ever speak or type much ( just a choice ) I am a quiet person to begin with. Usually all you hear from me is Hiya all, And does anyone one want this weapon. hehe. But the other people talking is why I like this server.

I for one dont really say much other than "Hiya" "I have ____ If someone wants it" "I'll take one" and "bye."

As for the conversations, I really enjoy hearing them to be honest. I find it interesting that we can all take on these waves and waves of mosters while talking about what happened at the office today or how someones trip was etc etc.

I could understand if someone was hogging the channel for several minutes, but that hasnt happened while Ive been in there. People will just interrupt with any game-important info and all is well.
