... And what is the Karma physics all about, is it unrealscript or something else entirely?

Karma Physics relies on both the engine and the script. Without even one of either the engine and the script, the game would not exist. It's like that Coke Commercial where if one professor was gone, the formula would be lost, and the world would come to an end or something like that.

"Thankfully, the formula is safe, and so is the world!"

Oh and isn't unreal and unrealscript in assence the same thing. I know unrealscript makes the unreal engine and unreal is run in the unreal engine along with many other games, right?

unreal was written in C i think. The unreal engine isn't made by unrealscript

I was under the impression that only the speed sensitive code was written in C and the rest that could afford to be slower was written in unrealscript but I could be wrong. I ordered a few books on the subject though, I'll get the rest I need from there. Thanks for everything though. I do have a much better understanding of how things work here and I like what I see. The code of unreal really is the future of gaming with all the new technology coming out that can handle it. I learned that most games up until recent weren't even object oriented. Unreal is the first to take it into consideration making it truly modifiable. I can't wait to start making mods! I do have one last question for this thread however. The server DC has is great and is the only server that I haven't had a single problem with. I got most of the info on the server at this site but I was wondering how much Ram it is using or how much Ram would you recommend to start a server with room for mods and max players playing invasion or the like? I am looking at a couple that use Ubuntu Server. My wallet is light so I must take that into consideration...

It doesn't really take much to run a server, especially with linux, I ran one off of a Via epia 800mhz mini itx board with 384MB of ram. ut2004-bin used about 50megs of memory, while the rest of ram was used as buffers and disk cache. UT2004 is not multi-threaded, so the only advantage to a multi-core processor will be for background tasks on your server. It is rare to see a new server with alot of players early on...so i wouldn't even focus on putting much into hardware...if you have an old pc laying around, use that.
It was able to handle 8 players, but that was with high stat caps. If I was to limit it like DC I could get about 20 players...The real limit is bandwidth. My cable modem bandwidth is 15M Down and 2M up. There is a way for determining the player limits using the netspeed setting of the server, I forgot what the default is.
I find the best way to learn is by trying.

Some advice: learn bash scripting if you want to run your server.
Some mods have their share of bugs. One thing I noticed is that the satore monster pack (Queens, Titans, and Nalis) makes a bunch of log entries through out a game. When your log gets too big, the UT server crashes. You need a script to restart it when it does.
I might be able to dig up some of my scripts...I had it automatically restart the server when there was no activity for a while...this kept it from crashing when players were on.
I also had scripts for managing maps...I had about 2 gigs of maps....having them all available slows down the server startup time, so my script will pick a random set of maps each time.

I can be more helpful then that. The map is in an area known as your 'file cache' (which happens to be a folder in your directory called 'Cache' ya-know) and not in your maps folder. Sure, you could probably get a program to install it to your game from there, but try looking into your Cache folder if you don't plan on editing or saving it or anything. May as well not be a jerk and laugh at you, even if I can't help but smile remembering when I learned about that.

EDIT: Just so you know, some places (maybe including this one) don't really like it when you use programs to 'steal' files from your Cache folder, so you might want to think about that as stealing if you plan on using it like that.

Uncaching a file is in no way stealing it. If you know what you're doing (ie, if you understand that uncaching can sometimes cause problems with newer/older versions of files) then I'd even recommend it. Uncaching a file will usually save servers you visit money in bandwidth costs.

Another thing that is totally of subject but... I don't think people should think of any alterations done to maps or mutators they built as stealing.

That's your opinion, and, to be frank, I think it's a bit of a naive opinion. Making a quality map can easily take hundreds of hours. Making a mod like UT2004RPG almost certainly took thousands of hours. When you put that kind of effort into something you have the right to say how it's used or not used.

Just to give you an example, I made a vehicle called the EONS Scorpion which has a unique weapon inspired by behavior of the Scorpion in UT3. It also contains a speed boost and suicide bomb functionality. Literally the day I publicly released the map that featured this vehicle I was asked whether another person could copy my code for use in his own project. I did give him permission to use my code as long as attribution was given to me for it, but at the same time I wanted my vehicle to be used in other maps. Having two or more different versions of the same or similar vehicle floating around publicly is not beneficial to my goal of having other maps adopt my vehicle.

For the same reason, if Mysterial had released UT2004RPG and then the next day JoeSchmoe released JoeSchmoeUT2004RPG it would be problematic. Hypothetically, what if JoeSchmoeUT2004RPG became popular whereas Mysterial's UT2004RPG did not (for whatever reason, lets assume because JoeSchmoe runs a really popular server and everyone learns about it from there). Having two codebases like that which are directly competing is not exactly ideal for either the author of the code or players or future mod developers. So there are some reasonable reasons to discourage excessive version fragmentation even if something may technically be legal.
