But yeah, sounds good. I still think we should make our own. The difference?

With Sentinel: "DC got Sentinels on here! Sweet!"

With Something We Make: "WOAH! I've never seen these before! How do they work? I should try them out! I can't imagine how much work they put into this!"

If we go for something completely new, then to me it seems there is a huge effort in generating the meshes and animations. I am not convinced it is worth the effort. Using UT2004 sentinels then people know what to expect, and accept them a lot quicker.
To do something different just for the sake of it being different is not my cup of tea. However, if instead you have a concept of what it is you are after - sentinels shouldn't work like that, they should do this instead, and look like this, and be animated like this, and use these emitters, and have these benefits - then it may be worth the extra effort.
But I am just after an automatic turret.

I like the idea of a sentinel being much like a pet they would be very similar just like you build it and it lasts till it dies but you could upgrade it by buying different skills such as monster class is buying monster points health ect. so for sentinels it could still be health the wepend it uses and armour or somthing along those lines.

That depends on if it's an application to be part of the team.

There is nothing stopping you from looking at the code, trying things out, and posting them on the forum.

Perhaps, but it's the difference between being something done in my spare time and something I am actively working on.

I do so hate to be a thread killer, however, these Sentinels dont work so well with RPG.

I do want to make Sentinels in some form for the engineers to create.

I have to agree with Druid, the sentinels don't work real well although we had them working pretty good for some time on our server. BUT the sentinels took alot of babysitting and most people spent more time babysitting versus playing and therefore took the fun factor out of the game and made it more like work.

I'd go for something more like an engineer making an item with adenaline like the ol' Duke Nukem trip mine, or something like a sentinel dome to protect you and/or others whilst you regenerate your health. Maybe the engineer could make a time delayed nuke blast like the levi!

What it comes down to is that the sentinels take alot of work therefore taking the fun out of INVasion. They seem work well for other game types as I've played with them in ONS and read were others tried them in CTF which would make sense.

But far be it for me to say no, they were somewhat fun to figure out and I'd think they'd make a good addition to JB and of course INV if people like to play it but those servers are more like instagib servers...complete chaos which can be fun under certain circumstances!

Szlat: It's not doing it for the sake of being different, it's doing it for the sake of not being the same. There is a difference.

KZXten: Your trip mine idea instantly flashes me back to ChaosUT2 and the CLAW 2... That thing rocked.

I'm confused... I like diversity and all, but why make a car with square wheels? For that matter, why re-invent the wheel?

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

But what if the car already has square wheels and you are the one who comes along and makes them round?

Not sure if that applies but you do have a habit of making two types of mutators/addons...

-Those that don't exist and are badly needed (auto-taunt mutator, monster mover, player agreement, anti-camper)
-Those that are improvements over the originals, even if they were fine before (3 classes for RPG, better versions of original magic weapons)

But it's your spare time so I guess we can agree that you should use it how you best see fit.

Sure, but I tend to make improvements over the previous version ob extending base classes and tweaking only what I need to do...

That's quite a bit different than rewriting everything...

Druid, another idea for invasion engineer class: team wall! It's like a one way mirror, you can shoot through it for x amount of time and it reflects monster shots?!?!?

How about a one man shelter that rejuvenates a players health for x amount of time, that shields the player from the monsters not only from shots but awareness. It would suck to get out from being rejuvenated and BAM monster pile up!!!

I'm not sure where you are taking the engineer, I remember some time ago reading your forums and thought it was dropped...please let me know so I don't spam engineer talk all over the thread.

Dropped? Heh, no chance. But it would be best to start another thread(s) with your ideas.

As in, the vehicle in UT2004. Has about eight wheels, shoots a purple meteor-looking object about twice a second, and can create a pinkish shield to defend against attacks, which stops working after it takes enough damage, and has to recharge.
