Hello Folks:

I came across this information on my eBay chat forum. Yvonne

For those who wish to help!
Mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans has stopped all animal rescue now that mandatory evacuation has begun. Please sign this petition, and forward it to anyone you can to sign, to make sure animals are included. Animals can survive on this water, but they are going to starve to death and the contaminated water will shortly start to kill them. Many are chained and cannot get food.

Please sign the petition, they don't understand why they're left behind - neither do I.......please help save them. Humans shouldn't be the only priority - we're the ones responsible for them and now they're dying with each passing moment.

Thanks Deunan:

If it would make a difference I would fly down there to help with the pet rescue effort. It is so upsetting to me that they will not let people leave with their beloved pets. These people are risking their lives to be with them and I do not question it. I would be one of these folks. Some people do not understand the caring one has for pets that they are a family member.

I do understand that is hard to place a person with a pet. There is no place for them unless someone opens up their home. I think most people would rather live in a tent and keep their pets.

Some pets have been let out with their owners.

Signed.

That's awful. I really hope this petition does something. Those animals don't know what's going on and they can't take care of themselves. If something were to happen to my house, my cats would be the first ones I would go after. My family will know what's going on and will take care of themselves.

Anyway, grrrr. I hope this changes. Thanks for posting that, Kitty.

Thank you Boingo:

I have been in touch with the ASPCA and they are still rescuing. An agency in New Orleans ( I forgot who) wants to keep the rescued animals in the region for a month so people can pick them up. This is a big dilemma, as they do not have the room for them. From my understanding the rescue was halted for one day due to this fact. The Humane Society has moved some of the pets out of State.

Today I sent the ASPCA a cheque and a bag full of my home made catnip mice. Maybe they can fundraise with them and make some money. My toys are really high end; very cute and safe they are made of felt and I sew them by hand.

The government should not let these animals die like what happened to the people. Too many people have died due to the lack of organization and cooperation of the levels of government.

Yah, they should help out the animals there. There are plenty of organizations that will go in there and do it if they were allowed. Those poor animals are stuck there with no help and there isn't anything they can do. Hopefully, something will be done to help them and they can either be reunited with their families or they can find new ones.

Say has PETA been down there to rescue animals or are they to busy harassing kids at Disney and throwing blood and paint on people with fur coats? I sure hope those animals down there can be rescued though, it is not a good environment for creatures that don't know better than to drink the standing water. I saw a lot of dogs hanging around on the news coverage today, they seem to be weathering this pretty well considering how terrible their surroundings are. I got my fingers crossed.

I was watching the news last night (which doesn't happen very often) and some of the animals are being sent here to Utah. They're going to do a huge pet adoption this weekend (I believe). The pets they showed looked well and happy and there were plenty of people hanging around with them. Are other states doing this as well?

As far as I know Illinois is so far only hosting people to the tune of 2300+ at this point. That number will certainly grow. I heard some bonehead on the radio this morning who wanted the refugees out of the Astrodome because he was worried about them claiming squatters rights! Now that is ridiculous enough, but he had to take the ignorance to a whole new level and say that if they didn't leave the astrodome the Houston Oilers wouldn't be able to play their football games at home this season. For those of you relatively out of the sports loop, the Houston Oilers used to be an NFL team that played in the Astrodome, problem number one with his statement is that squatters rights only apply to abandoned buildings, problem number two, and this is a doozy so follow along with me, is that the Houston Oilers moved to Tennessee in 1999, and have been the Tennessee Titans since 2000. And what of the Houston Astros major league baseball team? Well they have been playing at Minute maid park for about five years now. I got a good laugh out of this knucklehead just thought I would pass it along. Oh and he claimed to be a government employee in Texas, which I do have a hard time believing.
