I'm having a tough time finding everyone's skin. Especially if I have to ask everyone that is playing, which sometimes they don't respond because of one reason or another.

Would it be easier if we had some database somewhere where we can upload our skins under our name so everyone on the forum can download it from one place? Maybe in the player stats section of the homepage.

I notice that not everyone posts their skin in this section. Maybe everyone can write their skin name in their profile or something. Maybe if its possible to force download the skin (I wouldn't mind that on my computer). I just don't like seeing a bunch of Jacob's running around on the map. I'd like to see what everyone really looks like. I may be rambling but I hope there is some solution to this other than waiting for people to put their skin here. I notice it's alot of the higher level players that I don't have their skin.

I can tell you with some certainty that skins will never be pushed on this server. It has actually been discussed before, and there are just to many players on dial-up to push an xtra 50 megs. If somebody wants another players skin they can almost certainly find it in the skins forum and download it. This places the honus on the player who wants to download a skin rather than every player on the server regardless of whether or not they want it. Also contributors to this server are allocated an amount of space for attachments. So if someone really wanted their skin to actually be hosted by the forum rather than linked to somewhere else they could simply contribute to the server!!! Personally I really like that idea, glad you thought of it...

Ya. I been going on a lot lately and I been asking people I see what skin they have. But most people say "I don't know what it's called".

Even if the people that don't play regularly give out their skin, there is a chance that the skin may be used by a regular.

I already went through the forum skins and I also notice that even the regulars change their skins a lot. So the skin section is almost pointless unless you stick with the same skin forever.

It's too bad you can't force the skins on the people that want it. Since I have DSL, I wouldn't mind, but I understand about the people with dial-up.

My solution, for myself, is just to place a link to my skin in my signature. At least everyone will have access to it when they read any of my posts.

The last person to have dial up has upgraded, that was dirty deeds skins should certainly be forced now.

So there will be less spam about skins and more team talk about fragging. coordinate attacks and support etc. simply would open more mic time for the fight and other topics that are pertinent.

New comers are cool but it should be about the regular diehards and faithful DC fighters enjoyment.

We will never force skins on people for several reasons:

1) Download time
2) No way to confirm whether or not the skin is inappropriate
3) Uses up space and bandwidth on the server
4) Uses up space on computers, and a lot of people may not want to download the skins.
5) We have had over 11,000 unique cdkeys sign on to our server. Obviously, most of those people don't stick around. Even if each person only had one skin (and as you stated, many people change their skins often), that would be 11,000 skins.

Even with the few people that have posted their skins on the forums they take up almost 100 mb i(after being zipped)

I cant imagine why someone wouldnt want UT to take up 11 GB of HD

I withdrawl my view on forcing skins, the disadvantages outwiegh the fun of seeing all skins.

Checking skins section in forum on a regular basis and downloading skins individually is the way to go.

Besides I have seen that a few of our dedicated users have compiled lists with linkys to our fighter that stay for the long haul. As long as those lists are updated now and then theres no need to force

Thnx

I have used the same skin since the first week I hopped on the server. Mostly because I'm to lazy to change it...
I think if I changed skins people would wonder how someone else got my name.

See Fro's Skin Pack.

Or, here's a direct link to his download page.

Download those packs, MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR UT2004 DIRECTORY, extract them into the right places, and you should be all set for 99% of the regular players.
