When I try to play my PlayStation game Digimon World on my PS2 it says "Please insert a PlayStarion or PlayStation 2 format disc."
All my other PlayStation and PS2 games work just fine and Digimon World use to work as well.
My PS2 use to belong to my sisters ex-boyfriend but he ended up giving it to me, I dont know if he tweeked with it at all when he owned it. I never did. I'm pretty sure the PS2 itself is a few years old.

Does anyone know a way to fix this?

I had this problem with my PS2 for a few games. It was due to a either scratches on the disc or dust on the lens. after cleaning/repairing the games worked fine.

for my discs i purchased a repair kit... it worked fine.

That was one of the ways that I used to make a little money one the side when the PS2 games were expensive. I worked for a fire restoration company at the time and my boss let me use the professional grade equipment to restore game discs for people. I had one of the local pawn shops bringing me all of their DVDs and Laser Discs and CDs and PS2 disc for a professional polish job so that they could get top dollar for their media.

I had to re-align the laser on my old (only one - but it's very old) PS2. There are a few articles with lots of pictures describing how to do it. I ended up teaching my kids how to do it so they could get their games going themselves without my help.

Yeah, that's one of the problems with being an early adopter. You sometimes get the earlier versions of things that do not have all of the bugs worked out yet.

For my PS2 I just use percussive maintenance, (slam the side of the console with the side of your hand until things decide to line up).

It worked many times,

that is until the point that it requires the final fix, 1 round from a .410 precision alignment tool puts the fix to that problem forever.

LOL, didn't think there was that many of those "precision" tools around any more.
