Okay, I was thinking about this the other day ...

We can use a modified GhostInv object, giving the player the transparent look of a Ghost but retaining the necessary identifiers (IE, that little triangle and name). I was also thinking about the Booster Combo crosses - if we could do those in red, I think it would be cool (and sufficiently differentiate it from normal Ghost). Now, as long as the living (IE, a medic with resurrection) can interact/target the "Ghost", a Medic could have a resurrection artifact. There'd be a timer where if a Medic didn't get to you in time you'd go ahead and die.

I think the costs should be 150 Adren and 1/2 of current health (which will be transferred to the resurrected). Cost for ability - 50 skill points.

I would also suggest a resurrection marker ... you can only be brought back once!

I was thinking that it wouldn't be hard now to put this into DruidRPGGameRules after all the other death stuff. I'm not so sure how we would do it 100% as this would potentially "PreventDeath" but mostly only "delay" it. I guess you would wait for the Ressurection timer and somehow make the death happen again with the same values (though I don't yet know how to do that).

And how long should the timer be? Would there be a reason for it to be different for different folks?

There is an ongoing discussion to include a form of resurrection as part of Ghost - see http://www.disastrousconsequences.com/dcforum/posts/list/2538.page. In this case, the player dies, and if a medic can heal him back above 0 in time, he lives again.

However, if all the ghosts fail, so the player does actually die, then we could allow a true resurrection ability to revive them, as you are suggesting - so the two suggestions are not exclusive.

So, it looks good to me. Timer about 5 secs I would suggest. Perhaps need to give the 'dead' player an inventory item which can timeout and permanently kill him. The resurrection ability can then just search for player pawns with that inventory item.

Would need to be able to disable it in CTF/BR/Assault/onslaught matches, as the delays when you die would be a big pain.

Yeah - no offense to those taking part in that suggestion, but I didn't like the idea of changing Ghost (or even adding another level). And it all just seemed so "messy".

I didn't address PvP in my post but I was still tossing that issue over in my mind. Just tossing it altogether is probably the best.

After doing a grep for "reliable" after seeing this, until the situation with the gameplay/replication wierdness is resolved, I'm not going to code up this version of Resurrection.

First, I wouldn't have done it without Dru's "Yeah, that's the ticket."

Second, DruidGhostInv has a replication line in it, so I'd want to avoid coming up with anything else that might have to have replication in it (even though DGI's replication line is only for a boolean value).
