My friends, I have done many dirty, nasty jobs in my life. Cleaning boilers (big ones, enough for my, um, large frame to crawl into), chimny breaches, scrapping grease traps, septic tanks, gutting houses and fish, digging out houses out, I even assisted in bio fluid removal and cleaning of an embalming parlor, but todays job of doom tops the list.
If you don't know, I work for a school. Well, it seems the kitchen freezer went down over the weekend sometime and it wasn't noticed untill last night. The temp in there was pegged at 102 degrees, and it was full of last years left over frozen foods. Think Smell-o-vision for a mix of the texas Chainsaw Massacre house and House of 1000 corpses.
Do you know the round Carolina turkey breasts they cut up at a deli? Well, the ones in here the packages had expanded to about the size of a basketball. Upon touching these bombs of poultry, BANG, warm, rotting turkey all over the Em! <gag> There is more! packages of taco filling (pre cooked, turkey and pork) in the same condition. boxes of chickens and chicken nuggets. (2nd worst stench smelt today)
But the all time worst thing seen and smelt today was fish nuggets which had popped their bags and fell over and popped bags of uncooked pizza dough. This had heated up enough to rise, and start to liquify in the middle. MMMMMMM...tastes like yak after a clam steam kegger. The only good thing was the doors are somewhat air tight, so no flies could plant maggots. (I cant handle maggots, not at all. Had about 2 quarts of them spilled on me while cleaning out a delapidated, missused house. to this day I can't even look at them, never mind smell that pecular maggot smell.)
So, after several showers and drenching myself in disinfectant, I am sharing this day of doom with you, aren't you luckey?
Anyway, do you have a nasty dirty job you've had to assist or do, lets hear them and make me feel luckey for having only had to shovel rotting, liquid cheese like muck off the floor.

Do you have kids? Not that I don't feel sympathy for you - I really do! But I think most parents can go... "hmm, yeah, I definitely had to clean something unidentifiable that smelled pretty much how you are describing it at some point"

Well, we call his room the cave. It's dark, and he loves garlic on anything so we know he's not a vampire. Also, there seems to be alot of , um, methane production too. We keep trying to change the diet of the beast, but he eats as he wishes when we are working. <shrugs> So I shut off his ac and make him open the windows at night.

Man, that sucks for you! I share your disgust of maggots. I can't handle them either. I grew up on a lot of acreage in the middle of nowhere, had lots of cats and dogs, and I saw lots of dead and decaying rodents.

I was goin to put in a disclaimer, but if you read all the above and are still reading I guess you can handle it.

I've got one for you em, from a summer job in high school. I live in chicken country. The chicken plants put the guts in one half of a divided trailer with the feathers in the other. It's not a tight divide, so the gastric juices level off through the whole trailer. My job was to back the truck into one bay and dump the guts, then move it to the next bay and dump the feathers. Both of these were to be made into dog food. I would spend some time snow shoveling guts into a hopper, then go over and bobcat a hopper full of feathers, then climb into the trailer and hose it out. Keep in mind this was a SUMMER job. It was the worse feeling to come to work and see more trailers than I could do in a day. Meaning that the mess was going to cook for a few days. And yes, there were many maggots. One time, I had the bucket of the bobcat too pitched or too full and it sloshed out onto me a rain of wiggling stench. I had to go home that day because I began to digest. Everything just kinda stung. Anyway, enough of the "good ol' days". I just wanted you to know there was somebody who truly sympathized for you.

You people are disgusting....

The only thing I have to add is when I was babysitting once and had to change a diaper that was flourescent green...I kid you not. I don't know what that kid had eaten....Maybe he swallowed on of those glowing liquid things people put in their mouths around Halloween.

Eh, after 3 typical boys and 3 prissy girls, nothing bothers me anymore--EXCEPT MAGGOTS and cockroaches.............I used to work at night catching live chickens from the pens and cages and loading them on the truck for the Swift processing plant in southern Ga. During the summer months, the stench, moisture, and MAGGOTS would send me reeling.

My experiance with kids says that this paticular color was probably generated by fruit loops

As for clean-ups, before I got my nice cooshy federal job, I worked for a company that did disaster clean up, such as: fire, flood and wind damage. In fact tho our company cleaded up just about any thing that someone else refused to touch. This one time we got a call from the family of a man who had killed himself, 6 weeks before he was found.

No details, but it took over a week. I had to get a hotel room because my wife would not let me near the house until I had showered and changed.

The offshoot is that games like doom e.t.c. don't scare me anymore.
