Anyone live in Detroit?

I'm going to a conference next week in Detroit/Ypsalanti, and I'm wondering what the local hot spots and whatnot are. Any good places to eat?

If you are going to Detroit, eat in the hotel, stay in the hotel, and try to have the convention in your hotel. Good luck! I'm a Blackhawks fan, so Detroit is the devil's lair.

I haven't been there in a long time, almost 20 years, but I remember the downtown was very cool. They had this monorail type train and a very nice civic center. I hear that detroit has some very bad areas, though, like Chicago. So, I say just know where you're going before you start just driving around randomly at night.

Ummm... how long has Krystals been around??? White castle actually pre-dates pretty much anybody, having been founded in 1921 and being essentially turned into a chain when it moved here to Columbus in 1933. Good references on this include

Living here in Columbus, which is where the likes of Wendy's, White Castle, Damon's. Max & Erma's and countless other major food chains are headquartered, if not where they started, you get a special bit of education on this subject here in town.

As for Detroit. Like it has been said...DON'T (if you have a choice). Detroit is only about 3 hours or so away, and the times I have been up there, it has not been very enjoyable.

hello. ive lived about 10 mins from detroit for about 8 years now. 1 tip Stay away from east side detroit. very nasty ugly place.... as for hot spots? do you mean wifi? or just places to visit? as for wifi go to http://www.wi-fihotspotlist.com/ as for places to visit take spaceys adivce. anywhere but michigan will do. places to eat? im not to sure about detroit but the lions den in waterford is Awsome. you might even find a detroit lions player or 2 in there. enjoy the grey skies and the horrable people!!

spacey is right whitecastle has been around for a very very very long time before krystals. krystals was founded 73 years ago and white castle 85 years.oh yeah and they call them Sliders for a reason... slide right on out =P
