Hey, I used to play on the DC server alot, then I kind of... took a break from gaming and uninstalled UT2K4 because my Harddrive was running out of space and... it's a pretty big file. Anyhow back to the error. I re-installed and updated the game and downloaded the RPG, and when I went to join the game, just as the map downloaded, my game closed down and I got this error:
UT2004 Build UT2004_Build_[2005-02-15_17.02]
OS: Windows XP 5.1 (Build: 2600)
CPU: GenuineIntel Unknown processor @ 2389 MHz with 510MB RAM
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT (7801)
General protection fault!
History: UObject:: ProcessEvent <- (RPGHUDInvasion CTF-FaceClassic.RPGHUDInvasion, Function Engine.HUD.PostRender) <- FPlayerSceneNode::Render <- UGameEngine:: Draw <- UWindowsViewport::Repaint <- UWindowsClient::Tick <- ClientTick <- UGameEngine::Tick <- Level Face Classic <- UpdateWorld <- MainLoop <- FMallocWindows::Free <- FMallocWindows::Realloc <- 676F4C57 0 FArray <- FArray::Realloc <- 0*2 <- FMallocWindows::Free
I really don't know how to interperet it at all, one time I joined and actually managed to load the map when my character was dead, but as soon as the next wave started I got the exact same error. Any help you can give would be appreciated, I'll continue going around my computer trying to find what could cause the problem. Thank you in advance.

I was having a vaguely similar problem a month or two ago. I would launch the game and when the game started to fire up I would get the error. Not exactly the same error as you, but it turned out to be my power supply. I have the same video card as you and it takes the extra four pin power connecter up top. Long story short, my PSU was crapping out on me, I installed a new Antec modular power supply and all is good. All my other computer functions worked just fine, but Unreal is a powermad monster.

Did you update to the latest patch? Everytime install it (or the mega bonus pack) UT won't run. The previous patch works fine though.

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

well I actually got into the server and was able to view people from spectator mode because my character had been killed while the map was loading. Then as soon as the wave began, I got the critical error.
I don't think it's a problem with ut2k4 in general because I can play in all kinds of modded servers, I have a 500 watt power supply and play CoD 2 and Quake 4 and Doom 3 without any problems with graphics turned up at least moderately high.
How would I check if I had an old ut2004RPG installed? I don't think this is the issue (mainly because i can get in on spectator mode) but it's a possibility. I used to get a similar error on Onslaught maps when I tried to enter a specific kind of vehicle (I forget which one), all the other vehicles worked but when I tried to enter that one vehicle I got a critical error and the game closed down, maybe that can give somebody some ideas.

the reason you get random errors isnt your machine... old paths from old patches creat new errors with new patches.and each machine handles each error diffrently.. <just trust me .install those patches in that order. and you shall see no more errors..http://www.ut2003hq.com/pafiledb2/pafiledb.php?action=category&id=5

Good grief. NO!
You can uninstall and reinstall if you want but do not go through all those patches one at a time. Waste of energy.
Just install the mega pack. It has the latest patch and a bunch of extra stuff you will either need or appreciate.
There is NO logical reason to apply patch after patch after patch. The latest patch contains all the fixes from the previous patches.
And from a PC support standpoint, why would you walk up the stairs one step at a time when you could take the elevator to the top? It's not like you would be missing a file or something.
