I'm mapping quite a bit (3-5+ hrs a day) and I'm finding that the static mesh packages aren't really cutting it anymore. I need a few custom meshes, and I'm not that hot with 3ds Max, and Maya is a mystery to me. Does anyone here model?

me, but unless its a easy model job, wich isnt gonna take to much time.
i am afraid i am gonna say no, even though i like to model.
but i dont have the time to spend hours into it anymore.
neither will i give it a skinning job.
but if you post a concept, i am willing to look into modeling a few objects for you.

Nothing too crazy - I just need a large, futuristic techy-looking computer terminal / workstation. I'll have some screenshots later of where I will need it and a sketch once I... draw it.

k
i think that it'll not be much of a problem then.
but do keep in mind, to make it look good ingame, it does have to be skinned.
incase boning has to be done aswel, i do not know how to bone for unreal. (wish i do know, then i could make some models for new monsters.)

No boning or any of that. It's just for looks.
Sorry I'm dragging my feet on this, I'm working feverishly on this map trying to get the SMeshes to act right.

A computer terminal? Being a computer engineer who has followed the progression of computers and their designs for 30 years, if I had to bet on what a terminal will look like in perhaps just another 30 years, I would say that most folks would not quickly recognize them (indeed, in the game, most of the displays are too low-tech). The really ultra-bleeding edge displays are currently either just a transparent surface (think something like a cross between a window and a chalk board, as they are just giant LCD displays) with opaque markings on them, or even just a "volume of foggy air" in which lasers draw the 3D images (SeaQuest was dead on for what some of the units currently look like). As for keyboards like we think of, for the most part, they are being done away with, with either voice recognition or "touch screen" type keyboards replacing them in most instances, and things like VR gloves handling most of the remainder.
The only exception to all of this is that perhaps tablet PCs will continue to be used. These are likely to become much smaller, and look more and more like a clipboard than a fancy laptop.

With all this input, I foresee a mediocre map and a completely awesome computer terminal.
I'll actually have sketches and whatnot as soon as I get back to the U, where all my equipment will be set up. Sorry again.
