That was insane. It looks like something out of Star Wars or War of the Worlds....or Mount St. Helens erupting.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO what a ride!"

This is a 1minute clip of the finale from RanchBlast 2005 a party that Steelace and myself host every year. This is a big download so if you are on dial up you might want to pass this one up. If you have broadband you dont want to pass it up.

I went to watch my little hometown's fireworks last night and was thinking how fun it would be to be a pyrotechnician, just on the side of a full time job. There's probably some sort of license that needs to be acquired. How would I go about that? What kind of training is there?

that is a sucky job all the fireworks are controlled by computer now so all you would be doing is setting up the cannons and covering them if foil and runing miles and miles of wire and ignition cable

We hand fired two shows this weekend, if you have earplugs, longsleeve cotton shirt , gloves, goggles and hardhat its a breeze. I have a couple holes in my shirt the size of silver dollars from where it caught and burned til my partner put it out. Mostly shows are still handfired, the larger shows are usually done electronically which is one step below computer controlled. Computer firing systems will fire the entire show for you after you program it, but they are mostly used on pyromusicals. The electronic firing systems like the one Steelace and I use fire each shot when we hit the button. Electronic firing systems are mostly used only on the larger shows. The video I posted here Steelace and I fired electronically from two firing panels. Even shooting electric is a lot of fun. Hand firing larger shows with larger shells like ours can be pretty hard work, you are so busy running around from mortar to mortar that you can't see any of the show. The shows we handfired this weekend lasted about 45 minutes, and I saw less then two minutes of them. Pretty fun stuff, and yes there is some licensing and permits and all the other regulatory paperwork involved to work these shows.
