Hi, How do you change your name if you want a long name that does'nt fit in the Settings "name" field? I heard you could do it just don't know how.

Wanted to change my name. Thanks

dude ur lucky.. You CAN change your names.. im stuck with dip42 and no way of making a junkie name.. my settings arent staying for any of the adjustments i make :'-(

Im not positive on this James, but I think you can go into your user.ini file in the UT system folder and change it.
Give it a try and see if it works.

In the user.ini file at the top should be all the information about your character:
[DefaultPlayer]
Name=###
Class=###
Character=###
team=###
Sex=###
Voice=###

Simply change the name to whatever you want. You can also put in symbols here which it doesn't allow you to do in game.

First post, whoo hoo!

FYI, using the setname command in the console allows up to 20 characters showing in game (though use of special characters that are larger than the average character can extend past the graphic box for player names in-game).

1. Press ~ to open console
2. Type: setname abcdefghijklmnopqrst
3. Press Enter
4. Go in game and chiggy check it out

This should do the same as altering the user.ini manually does, with less hassle. For those of you with multiple characters, or looking to have multiple characters, the Useful Keybinds thread has some character switching binds in it using this command. Hope this helps some folks out there! See you out there!

Dip, make sure your user.ini file is NOT "read only". I used to set my settings file in CS:S to "read only" so none of my changes would stick (or none of my friends).

ahah i figured it long ago.. but thanks for the info.. I may soon be joing you guys again
You can also do it mid game by typing /name or somthing rather similar to that
