This is an effort to help folks with map installs by saving time in downloading them.

When you log into any server and you don't have the map installed that is being played, it forces you to download the map into your UT2k4 cache. By default, these are deleted after 30 days. Here is a link to a proggie that will help take the maps from your cache and make them permanent which will help you save download time. It is the second one in the list. This utility works for skins, mutators, maps, and a whole host of other things.

USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. You can do some real damage to your game and mess things up if you don't follow the directions in the help file within the ZIP.

Also, here are a couple of tips.

1) Only choose the .UT2 (dot-yew-tee-too) files to install. When you get that far you will know what I mean. This program will drag all mutators associated with the .ut2 file with it (.aux through .xyz). If you don't do it this way you will get an error message "We're sorry, something went terribly wrong" and you could goof up some maps. Found this out the hard way.

2) Dirty Deeds mentioned that the .u (dot-yew) files should be left alone. DO NOT INSTALL THEM. From the way I understand it, if you install them and you go to another server, it may give you the "Incompatible game type" scenario. However, if done by accident, this utility makes it easy to uninstall them because it tracks what you do.

Make sure you read up before you use it. There a "What's New" file and help file in the zip.

If at first you don't friccasee, fry, fry a hen.

Alternatively, if you want to save time (and our bandwidth) on your initial download, the maps page has download links for almost all the maps. I encourage you all to use it.

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

I downloaded that file which is version 2.02. Had problems with it so I went to the contact section in the Help file and clicked on Swedix'Home.
Where I it led me to anew release version 2.3.0. I like it better because everything is listed together instead of file tabs. It's simple, just checked the select all box, put them in folder order to get thie .u files together and delected them as Dirty suggested above. Clicked the Uncache button to permanently install. I'm reviewing both versions.

Direct Download: http://www.calvert.ch/utcache/DL.php
Read about it here: http://www.calvert.ch/utcache

The Help button link to the UTCache help file does not open the help file in the program folder so I just made a shotcut to it.
And it reads for UT2003 but it works fine for UT2004.
