Hello DC Players and friends:

Agualung77 (Doug) is volunteering his time to the Gulf Coast Disaster. I have been asked by Doug to update you on his mission.

I have been in touch with his mother Sharon by phone and email and have taken some of the highlights from her email to share with you. Sharon is very proud of her son and so she should be, Doug is making a difference. The Church of Scientology is funding this mission that Doug is volunteering for. Doug mentioned to me that the Church volunteered during 9/11 so KUDOS to this church and their people.

Doug was very eager to volunteer on the front lines and finally left on Saturday with another volunteer named Juan who had flown in from Los Angles. Juan?s was to rent a van to take supplies to the disaster zone but being 22 in age the rental agency would not rent to him. He ended up having to borrow his grandparents Buick to take Doug and him to Tulsa, OK. When they reached Tulsa they picked up a truck with supplies and went on to Baton Rouge. On Sunday at 3am Doug called Sharon to update her on his journey. He was situated around 80 miles outside the disaster area and said it was a Dead Zone for cell phones and was iffy if phones would work.

Two days prior Douglas leaving he was instrumental in landing 3 major donations.

1.) Garmin donated 300 GPS units (ON STAR) with 20 of them telephone abilities for head honchos

2.) Donation of 90000 bottles of insulin - I am not sure where these came from.

3.) Generator that is large enough to power about 10,000 homes. Douglas worked for carnivals in the past so he called a man named Carl Jones who donated his large generator. The Army/National Guard airlifted the generator it out to New Orleans. After the unit was received Doug was called with thanks. While on the phone he heard people in the background cheering for him over the phone! He was being called ?the Man Of The Hour?. Carl Jones the carnival owner decided to go down with his crew to help out.

MONDAY September 5th UPDATE: Doug and Juan are headquartered in Baton Rouge as of this morning (80 miles from N.O.) Juan's grandma relayed message they are safe.

My heart and prayers go out to Doug, Juan and all the volunteers that are helping out. Also to the worn out New Orleans police and firefighters who stayed on to rescue their citizens during the sniping. Cannot forget the courageous rescue work from the men and women who have been saving lives by helicopter and land, the medical team at the airport and the National Guard.
