I'm just curious as to how people play the game and use their keyboards. I use the directional buttons and everything else is navigated around those. It all actually makes things alot easier.
I used the on screen keyboard for the picture. (Start>Programs>Accessories>Accessibility>On-Screen Keyboard).
As well as invasion, i play quite a bit of onslaught, so the link gun always needs to be accessible. Artifact and weapon tossing is easier and the translocator is easy to get to if i happen to be surrounded. How do you set up your keys?

Very interesting - I'll post mine when I get home. I use "ESDF" for movement and then other keys mapped around it.
I used to script a bunch in Q2/3 so I ended up using all mappable keys - and some of them had sub-menus like the voice menu in UT I haven't spent that much time customizing UT so I just have key assignments... but lately I have been looking at some scripts and maybe I'll give it a try in UT.
Here is the diagram (ugly!!!)

Mine's a little messed up mostly from different games, but I'm used to it.

Where do I go to bind 'toss artifact' to a specific key anyways?

Alternatively, you could download UT2004RPG and then you can just set the key binds through your configurations screen in game under the UT2004RPG section (its right at the bottom).
In game go to Settings>Input>Configure Controls. Beneath 'Miscellaneous' you will find the binds for UT2004RPG which include Stats menu, use artifact, switch artifacts, toss artifact and ghost suicide.
You can download ut2004rpg from here: http://mysterial.linuxgangster.org/UTRPG/media.html

J.Zero's UT Layout:
Here's the layout as it stands on the equipment that's being used...
The IntelliMouse Explorer 4.0 is one of those funky mice that has the horizontal scroll functionality. Great for working with spreadsheets and designing and such but the trade-off with gaming is that there are no "clicks" as you rotate it -- no "feel" to it -- which makes it near impossible to use the wheel to actually scroll through and select weapons. Hence the rather dense clustering around the Num Pad.
I actually like to use Num Pad clusters for every game anyway, just that in this case there was no option. Works out rather well however in that once you have the key map in your mind, it makes for a pretty speedy selection as each button correlates directly to a specific weapon or item i.e. you don't have to go through any other things to get to the one you're after (save for the piped weapons like RL/AVRiL and Bio/Mine Layer and such but that's no biggie). The "tossartifact" bind is quite the blessing as well, as was binding "stat fps" to F (but maybe that's just cuz I'm a geek and like to look at that stuff :wink.
Cheers Everybody!
P.S. Even though the ergonomics are great and the horizontal scroll wheel is a nice feature, I do *not* recommend the IntelliMouse Explorer 4.0 as I had to return my first one after only a few months because the left-click stopped registering about 30% of the inputs (basically low-quality microswitches that wear out after so many clicks -- newsgroup posts abound on the problem).
Microsoft was nice enough to ship me a replacement free of charge but the new one is starting to go already too. Definitely not a gaming mouse. Would probably recommend the Logitech MX series: 510, 518, or the new G5 Laser which looks mighty cool (the MX 1000 wireless laser mouse is neat as well of course though prefer wired for detailed tasks such as gaming and design aka 'pixel-pushing'. )
Unfortunately my hands are a little too big for the Logitech's so I'm stuck with Microsoft but bought a 510 for my cousin as a birthday present when they first came out and he loves it.

I just gotta say that my set up doesn't even closely resemble anything I've seen on here so far.
I guess it's because I use a different 'kind' of method or whatever. I use my trackball to swivel my head, turret, etc. I use the default keys for forward, backward and side strafing (which is housed on the Nostromo N52).
I don't have the time you guys do to make a diagram showing it all =)
