I didn't post this last week, cuz I was really in the dumps. My latest test, 70-291 was last Thursday. I missed passing by 2 questions. So close yet so far away. So I studied some more at school for the last 3 days and took it again today. It was harder the second time. I was so stressed, but I followed my instructors advice and not to change any questions once I answered them..go with first gut reaction. Well.....IT WORKED! I passed with a 764. I now get to hold this label:

No time to rest, Planning and Maintaining a MS server test is next week. Studying resumes tomorrow. Having 1st beers in 3 moths to celebrate today.

Monkey out.

Congrats, my friend

Thank you. It's been an uphill battle this entire journey. This was the BIG hump in the road. Not saying it will be downhill the rest of the way, but 290 and 291 are the 2 hardest tests on the course. So, the remainder 3 should be a bit easier, though the next one will have a lot of review from this last one and maybe 290 as well (so I've heard). Been a lot of anxiety, sweat and a few tears up to this point....but I must go on. It's been a long year being unemployed. Hope to get a good job after all this. General Dynamics has 3 IT postings right now, but I dont know any details of them yet. I do know the I need security clearance to work on base (Ft. Stewart) Will look into that soon.

ya, a Stinger-esk Avril would be a better thing... them flies are hard to track as you get pummeled by other monster fire.

Monkey's Log. Star Date: 201003-12.

Today was zero hour. After failing 70-293 last month (seems to be a pattern here) I had a firm grasp of what the classroom material is lacking (and this one was lacking more than the others, about 50%), I studied a lot...

Hitting the various resources available to me me....I guess it was enough as I passed with flying colors. (remembering some of the questions from the last one helped as I could look up answers)

So, it's been a long journey thus far. I have only 2 classes/tests left. Next one is the 22nd... Taking on Active Directory. I'm sure, as history has exposed to me...the course will lack many things I will need to pass the test. So, I hope to do extra research after class to find what I need to know the first time. It's just hard to do that as you have no idea what to find.. But I do have sources to help.

So, with a week reprieve...look out baddies....I'm back, and I have a can to open.

My current skin After several other skins, I have reverted back to Bender.

Dom,

Those classes are designed to fail people, even the A+ class. Trust me...............I've been there.

Flak's doing great.

Actually, the cause is the books. the MS official course books PRESUME your in the industry already and have been for some time and should know a lot of the stuff. According to other instructors I have talked to in a related forum, the Sybex books are more geared towards passing the test, then just a highlight of what you need to know. like the MOC books.

And my can has a pull tab...like SPAM...

When I took my A+ classes, the OS course books and our instructor took us from the MS DOS thru 2000/NT 4.0 OS's, even tho XP was out. They didn't even address anything from XP. So, suprise, no DOS on the test and XP was very prominent.

I was fortunate that I have kept all of my OS's from MS DOS thru XP at the time and was able to fill in the blanks, with help from the updated A+ exam guide and CD. Even with that, I still failed the software test by 1 question and it did not help that I received a 100% on the hardware test.

So, when I took the MCSE network, I just took the classes and did not bother to take the test. I didn't take anymore classes after that since I was not planning to get into the field but was just trying to learn how to build my own computers and set up home networks.

2279 was fun. Got done at 3pm yesterday. Now I gotta figure out what other than what's in the book that I need to know. Will start studying on monday...it's the weekend. Need to kill things and eat biscuits.
Will start with the Active Directory chapter in my big book, then move to the online course of the classroom course I just finished. Will need to brush up on some other areas as there are overlaps in each.

During class yesterday, we covered backing up and restoring active directory and covered a part that was a specific question that I got on my last test. How's that for test building...lets test you on something you will learn in the next class. If I knew that, I would have taken the classes in reverse.

So, 1 more class left, creating security for Win Serv 2003 environment. But gotta pass this next test before I can move on.

Already started job hunting now that I have something to market myself with. And promptly got my first rejection letter the other day. Of all things it was for a help desk position. I was way overqualified for it, but I thought I would shoot for it. Got a few leads to check out in the near future. But I gotta get my resume reprinted as the one I have is now outdated.

My current skin After several other skins, I have reverted back to Bender.
