Monkey's Log, Star Date 200906-15.
Arrived at class at 8:55 am. It's security time. About 1/4 of this will be review for me, at least.. But I'm excited about the new stuff. Hoping I can learn a few things that I can improve my network at home. Right now is just overview of the course and it's objectives, usual start off point.
The instructor is a very knowledgable person and is also seems to be quite the history buff (not just in computers, but ancient rome and all that).
I'm in class with 3 Army guys from one of the local army bases. Should be fun. Going to be another hot one today. I would love to ride one of my Harleys to class, but I'm afraid of it not being there when I get out of class. But I think I will tomarrow. Today I messed around too much at home and didnt have time to go to the garage and all that.
So there wont be any fragging for me this week. Wish more people played in the morning, getting tired of killing bots. When there is nobody on, I know the chance of me surviving (not to mention winning) is slim, so I go to TDM or DM and kill bots. Almost a guaranteed win.
Well, class is starting back up...more later this week.
Monkey, out.

I have a 2001 HD FXDWG and a 2005 HD FLSTCI. I have pics of my 2001, I can post on my gametracker page. Do that later this week, stay tuned...
Murphy followed me around this morning, was 5 minutes late for class.
Forgot my bike keyes some ways to the garage. Left my glasses on the computer desk after I got my keyes, back into the house I went. The first choice of bikes, the fob wouldnt work. I dont know if the battery is dead in the bike or the fob. Barely got the fob to work on the second bike, so I took that one to class. And wouldnt ya know it, I needed gas. I wish Murphy would follow someone else, perferably someone not in my family.

Monkey's Log, Star Date: 200906-19.
It's the last day of Security+ training. This isn't going to be easy. A whole week of acronyms and protocols. This will take some time to study, tho the practice exams we have been doing in class ( and for the rest of the day after lunch) really do help. It's been rumored that it's one of the hardest tests in the CompTIA courses...and now I know why. I think I will study for 2 weeks for this before I schedual the test. I will have to go thru the entire book again and see what kind of study stuff I can find online.
Tomorrow, I think I need to kill some baddies (or at least some bots if I have no help) I need to unwind. But for tonight, beer will have to do.
Monkey, out.

Monkey's Log, Star Date 200907-6
6am come awfully quick. As usual, anxiety is high. The wife wanted to watch more Six Feet Under last night (good show), but I had to decline as I needed my sleep. Crammed hard this morning on my OSI layers and ports and other relative material. Oh why is there so many acronyms? I'm more nervous about this test that the last. No way I can afford a retake and there is no second chance offer from CompTIA.
Cram, eat breakfast, cram some more. Take a shower, get dressed, drop a 5 Hour Energy shot (hey, it worked last time) and out the door I went. It's like going to a job interview for a job you really want. Heart is racing and you want to answer all the question right.
Going into the exam, I was relieved that the passing score was 750 and not 820 as I had been previously led to believe. Gives me more room for error.
I quickly wrote down all the info I could remember on the OSI model and port assignments on the sheets they supplied. I didn't get them all written down, but I think I got enough. The test lasts 90 minutes. Here we go....
90 minutes later and many items reviewed after initial completion later...
Another survey? Oh well, I'm forced to do it...
800! I PASSED IT! Oh, I was so relieved. If they passing score was as I had thought it was, I wouldn't have done it, but it wasn't. Oh happy days. The kicker in this was, I was never asked 1 question on the OSI layers or port numbers. All that studying for nottin! Could have used that brain segment for the other stuff they did test me on that I didn't get right.
My wife greeted me at home with brownies (with You Did It written on top), stuffed shells and some nice red wine waiting for me. She is wonderful.
The stress is over for this week, but I have many more tests to come, and they will be harder still. Well, 2 will be at least. Not looking forward to them. Thank you all for your support and you interest in reading this semi-blog of mine. It's Miller Time! (rather BL)

Monkey's Log: Star date 200908-31.
It's the morning of class #4 in the series. 2273B: Managing and Maintaining a MS Windows Server 2003 Environment. The book is thick. We will get thru it rather quickly in a week as this looks like 2 weeks of material.
It's nice to get out of the house. I tell ya, 2 months of nothing to do....makes one bored and cranky. I do get in a lot of game time, relitively, when the wife takes a nap in the middle of the day. But she is trying not to take so many pain pills and spend more time with me instead of sleep. (Oxycodone tends to make ya a bit drowsy)
We have a curio cabinet due in today to hold our antique poison bottles in (bought 3 months ago, but was damaged once, lost once, switched companies and a month later....Tada!). They have overun the china hutch. So now they will have a dedicated spot just for them. I tell ya, I didnt think old bottles would be so cool. But we have learned a lot in the last 2 some years of collecting an spent a lot of money. An investment of a sorts. But sadly, we sold $800 worth of bottles (what we invested in them) for only $550. We lost our butts. Sad really and very disapointing and heart wrenching. 2 were ment to be sold at one point, but 1 was one of our prized posessions. And we bought these for less than market value, we got them at a very good price, and we still lost money. I know we will find another one some day. Hopefully soon. I just hope we dont have to sell any more. I'm tired of having to sell things just to make it month to month.
Enuf boohooing. This class is the continuation to the means of an end of this life we have. I see jobs here and there for what I will be looking for. I just hope there is something available to me when I get out of school in November. It weighs hevily on my mind. Well, time for my 2nd cup of coffee.
Monkey, out.

Monkey's Log: Star Date 200909-14
Day 1 of 2277 class. This is the last class for most everyone in here(sans myself). This is the class that goes with test 70-291 (aka: The Beast) It's strickly networking core technologies in a Windows Server 2003 environment. 3 main categories are: TCP/IP, DNS/WINS & DHCP. DNS/WINS is the biggest part of the course. We just completed DHCP and it's pretty streight forward. TCP/IP as a suite of protocals, quite a bit harder, and dont get me started on DNS/WINS. This is going to be tuff.
After this week, I get to start studying for 70-290 (the test that goes with the last class 2273) I'm nervouse, but will take it one step at a time. 2 weeks of study seems to be adiquit to prep for tests.
After all this, I will follow up Demonslayers "how to build your own PC" up with "how to design and maintain your own network". Ok, maybe not, but it may be fun.
Lunch is over. It's coffee time. Mokey out.

Am now on the 2 week adventure of studying. Taking advantage of the MS e-learning vouchers that came with the course books. This is just for 70-290. 291 will come later, maybe even after the next class next month as there is some overlap. I just dont want to get behind in tests as it's hard to study for one while digesting another. Kinda where I am now as I completed both courses, and now I gotta study for the first and forget what I just learned on the second. *gasp*

Good idea. Then we could get Dru to post a "How to" on server building and maintenance..............
