DC considering stopping UT2004 services this Friday.

Greetings players.

Last night, I migrated the last service that our server in this colocation facility was serving for Shantara and I to Amazon web services. As neither of us has played in the last 2ish years, we believe it is time for us to bring this server home, and shut down services in the colocation facility.

As you may or may not know, it is dreadfully impossible to run UT2004 using a hostname, and with a server on a natted connection.

We will continue to keep the website up, and run the web site out of our home as we did in the early days of DC, back in 2003.

I've briefly discussed with one of our admins the idea of purchasing the community. If someone had a strong interest in purchasing the hardware, domain name, community, Google apps domain, and taking over the colocation contract ($80/mo), that is something we could consider.

For your consideration, DC was spun up around this same time in 2003. In Aug 2004, we purchased the first server (~$1500), and colocated it with a different company at $120/mo ($2880 over 2 years). About In August 2006, we purchased a new server (~$3800), and colocated it with Xmission for $80/mo ( $6800 over 7 years) so about $15k over the past 10 years spent on DC.

We've gotten some donations over that time that have offset a some of the cost, and we both appreciate that.

Irrespective of the ut services being shut down on Friday, I fully expect to have the website back online over the course of the weekend. We appreciate your support over the years, and hope that the forum will continue to be a valuable resource into the future.

WTH when i read the servers name, and it is really a pity that DC will stop this server as it is not only a bit of fun, it was in my opinion one of the best servers and with very good balancing and good People playing.

So this is the next Server that will be missed.

Thank you for hosting a this wonderful server. It has been fun to play on over the years, not only for the game play but also for the friendly community of players. In an age of high tech graphics and evolving game play it is nice to see a game such as this that has held out for a decade! Good bye DC, it was fun having you around.

Damn, I am definitely sad to see this. Unreal Tournament has been such a big part of my life, as a shy guy who doesn't get out much, Ive played many many hours a day on and off. Been playing UT games since the first one, got the demo randomly in a PC gamer magazine disc and fell in love, bought it on 9/29/99. This server has been around for a long time and has definitely been great. I used to play on and off where I would play only invasion, nothing else, only on DC! I have most recently played under the name Killstreak since I started again and have played daily for the past 5 months and I definitely have enjoyed it, and I pray that the server doesn't die now. I have the time and the money to put something into the server if it was needed to keep it going. Ive helped with many servers over the years like setting up the server, doing a lot of customizing and editing in the .ini files, Ive been an admin and still know the commands, and stuff like that. However some things I have no idea how to do cause Ive never actually set up my own server other than just Listen/Lan servers. I mean Im the type of person I could come on the server and make changes and do stuff to bring more people, find what the remaining UT community wants in a INV server and try to constantly keep adding and customizing the server so its always fresh. New maps and stuff too... I mean I would love to help the server and work with someone who knows the technical side and then I can do all the in game server related stuff. Anyways, just hoping I could help somehow, Thank you to everyone who put so much time into the server cause its been great and hopefully it continues, Ill definitely be playing a lot until its down, so join me!

It looks at the moment like DemonSlayer is going to take up the mantle of running the actual UT services, and we'll keep the website running on our hardware, just from our house.

I don't know for sure that Demon will be able to get the server running by friday when we shut down ut services here. He's got a lot of details to work out.

In short, I've provided him the unreal config files, maps, mods, and rpg data to begin his migration. It's about 4.2gb compressed.

If you/he doesnt get the server running, i coiuld help out with a spot on my dedicated server, but it is located in germany, so i don't know if that would help.

As Dru said, I will try to have the server up and operational.

The new ip address for the server will be 68.232.160.203.

I will keep everyone updated as we go.

I am a complete noob when it comes to unreal script, but I'd like a copy of the lines of code one needs to setup a server to experiment on from home before trying to deploy a server from a host somewhere.

Is this possible/arrangeable?

I would certainly consider sharing these files with other long term supporters, who had provided multiple consecutive donations, and who was intending to set up a server in the DC name access to these files.

When will that server be set-up properly?

Can you at least stick on RPG, invasion so we can have some fun in the meantime.

Still working on files--I will not make the deadline so the server will not be up on Friday.

Im glad to see that the server will keep going! I think anyone who plays there would be more than happy to just have to wait a while for it to be back up, rather than the server being gone! Thank you very much Demon for working to keep it going and for updating everyone!
