New Topic: We need more maps like Ringball, maybe a paintball-esque level filled with mini's and rocket launchers?

If you have a specific map suggestion, feel free to put it up (as its own post) in this forum.

There is a paintball map out there... I have played it, and I believe spoken with the maker. Although I can't quite remember who made it. It was called DM-Paintball.

The problem is, the mapmaker wasn't entirely brilliant about it. (I think they were a 10/12/somewhere around there year old.) It's essentially a big room with a ledge around the edge with a bunch of random objects in it. Skeleton. Road. Platform with pipe leading to it. It's got a lot of obstacles and stuff.

There are 2 problems I have with it.

1) Some of these objects are without static meshes. There are walls you can walk through, and it's very messy. I think there is an invisible wall somewhere else too. It gets a little annoying, at least for me.

2) Multiple people have reported getting repeated GPFs from it because of an included nVidia logo in it. Only a few people (somewhere between 2 and 5, out of probably 50+), but I would think that this would be a major issue for a server.

As a result of these two points, it's not played very much on the server I have seen it on.

However, I could probably send it to someone willing to fix it up... I am not sure it has been publicly released anywhere, it was more of a "here's-a-map-for-this-server" kind of thing.

I suppose I should of seen that name coming. I just thought of it one day when the server was on CTF-RingballDeaux, since I have a great love for paintball (Computer Games mainly, the one time I played.... bad things happened), and this map had to be one of the coolest I'd ever seen. That sounds like it'd be a fun map if someone cleaned it up, if not fairly small. Then again, that's why we have GaleXL

I'd be more than happy to offer to clean it up since I have nothing to do for the next two weeks, but there's two problems with this. My computer that has UT2k4 on it is up at my college, and I've only very slightly dabbled into the confusion that is the UT mapmaker.

The paintball thing was just a phase I went through, I think. While I still think it'd be cool to have such a map around, now I'm focused on keeping my medic alive during later waves on small maps rather than making sure we play a cool map.

Actually, I was thinking of something very close to that, though bigger for obvious reasons (Wave's 6, 8, and 12-16). I might start looking into learning the Unreal Editor soon to start working on a map, probably a paintball map since I've peaked my own interest in such a map.

If need be I can help with the development of the map. I have played with the Pro Team Portland Naughty Dogs and have seen different fields and layouts.

and for this map would we have it so you can go past the accualy paintball place and go into the bleachers kinda like in jimmys raceway and would we let people go into the dead boxes? or is that getting to complicated.

I will clarify, i practiced with the dogs, i was never on the team but I do know Rocky and Ramond and C-Bo and all the other guys. It would take a bit to get the map down, but we could do the dead box thing and the spectators could be in the stands and all. It would take some time to make it becuase of the coding and all that would have to go into it. I dont know if we could us any of the maps that the tourneys use because they would get us for using it. But I could make up a decent one on paper and try and get the basics on the ut editor.

TIMMY, my experience was actually much like that. I'm not sure how it happened, or to clarify how I got so close to my friend without one of us shooting the other. Perhaps one of us rounded the corner on the other.... But yeah, anyways, I took a paintball right to the collarbone. Needless to say, it hurt.

And to Subie, that's an incredible offer, thank you very much. I don't want to say anything for sure yet, but if I end up having a lot of free time this fall (Which is more than likely no since I'll be running a D&D game with a bunch of friends), I'm definitely going to see if my mind has the capability to learn the Editor.

As far as what's in the map, I think it'd be pretty cool to not only have the paintball arena, but to be able to fight in the stands, around the arena, and maybe even in a parking lot, with Manta's, Scorpions, Hellbenders, and the like. These wouldn't be ridable, they'd simply be there to be obstacles.

And now my mind is reeling with ideas. I'm going to sign out before my head explodes.

Wow, I didn't know so many people played paintball. I played for quite some time and pretty intensely (15 - 25 days a year, typically), from around 1991 - 2001. I keep meaning to get back out there but other interests and/or money issues have always got in the way. Right now I'm into running and mountain biking. I still keep up with the goings-on though.

I even wrote an article on pump play back in the day (published in the oct '96 issue of APG). I got a hundred buckaroos for it.

I always thought Tom Sawyer's island at Disneyland would make a great field.

I didn't play stock class, but I did mostly play pump. I have an old phantom. There weren't many stock class games in norcal.

The switch from pumps to semis happened right around the time when I first started playing. It was also when stock class started. In '91, about half the players were pump and the other played semi. By 1992, nearly all the players had semis.

My phantom was pretty pimp. I was the first person I know to put an expansion chamber (and later a regulator) on a pump gun with the idea that because it would improve consistency it would also greatly improve accuracy. People thought I was crazy at the time.
