Ello again everyone! I'm lookin to purchase my first handgun and I was wondering if there are any enthusiasts out there that could assist with this decision. I've currently got my eye on the CZ 75B 9mm. It feels like a Beretta 92F but costs half as much. And, as far as I've read, gets killer reviews across the board. But yeah, I'm open to others thoughts and suggestions! I'm looking just for sport shooting, plinking and such. Planning on sticking with 9mm, regardless of the make/model.

Share your braingoo!

cheers.

I will check with my cousin and a couple of friends who are into this sort of thing. All of us are into the really big stuff (like 50-cal, M14, etc.) they also do a bit of the small stuff like you are thinking about. Of course, the one who is also really into handguns is more into things like the PPK and the 45 (he is also a deputy sheriff, so... )

Of course, to give you an idea about my cousin, Hurshel... he did his marksman quals the first time on the range during his AF basic, and then put the instructor to shame when they switched to rifles. He was hunting by the time he was around 5 or 6, and calls eye shots on elk with his Remington at 500 yards, and has never failed to hit at least the socket... Looking forward to when he is less busy, as he has said that we will go out and shoot a few cases of 50-cal at the range next time I visit.

I've got a Kimber Custom Classic Stainless Steel .45. It's a 1911 style with real tight tolerances. Not a plinking gun however. I would recommend staying at 9mm for plinking because the ammo is cheap, it costs me about 17 bucks for 50 rounds of cheap range ammo with the .45. Never heard of the model you are talking about but I have plenty of hands on with the 92F, it's a pretty good gun.

good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun.

How much are you wanting to spend? That will determine a lot. Good to stay with 9mm with what you want to do since the ammo is cheap. Here is what I have:
http://www.sigarms.com/Products/ShowCatalogProductDetails.aspx?categoryid=8&productid=120 I have the .40cal version. I use mine for both target range shooting and home defense. I know it is opinion, but Sigs are one of the best built pistols and rifles out there. A lot of law enforcement use them along with Glocks. They cost a little more then what you want, though. Don't go too cheap, however. You will end up regretting it. Springfield makes pretty good pistols. HK is, ehhhh, they are kinda iffy. They make pretty good rifles, I'm just not sure about their pistols. Anyway, we can throw some ideas at each other when I see you tomorrow.

Well you know me, I like to keep my minigun handy just in case some unruly highschoolers try to jump me while I'm crossing the road...tends to happen a lot these days. Where is this world going anyway...?

As for the guns, the CZ has racked up quite an impressive list of reviews from zealots for other brands (including sig, cham ) so yeah, I think thats what I'm gonna run with. Sure is spiffy....

In any case, continue! Spacey, I must say you hang with some freaky folks! Eye shots on an elk?! What the...? I went deer hunting a few times, had a Ruger 30-06, was a slick gun but yeah, we only saw doe so, I've given up my rifle hunting days. My bro in law is trying to get me to go on the bow hunt with him...seems like it would be more fun than trudging through 3' deep snow looking at bambi's mom... Anyway, back to work.

cheers.

I actually have a CZ 75, works quite well and looks cool. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a hand gun. I believe the CZ is also standard issue for the Czech Republic police force because its so well built.

Best bang for your buck i'd say.

Just a quick tip: Try to shoot a make/model before you buy. If you know someone who has one or the store you are going to buy it from has a range it would be perfect. I try not to make a decision on buying anymore until I have put a few down range.

If you are just going to plink and don't need a duty gun you might see if there is a .22 conversion kit so that you can practice for pennies.

Hey, yeah, there is a 22 conversion for it, it runs about $245 so, 2/3 the price of the gun... Lets see...9mm is what, $10-15 a box? so 15-20 boxes of 9mm or a 22 conversion to shoot for cheap...tough call indeed :-S

Anyhoo, have to wait and see! I do have a couple friends who own one so I'll go give them a run.
