I usually have hardware 3d w/EAX enabled so I don't even hear any of the voice chat although I do see the players portrait flash on the side of the screen.

IMHO Eax is well worth sacrificing the voice chat it makes the game feel much better.

Oh My! This is why i dont hear Voice Chat then????

Ive seen Teamspeak used on other servers it seems to be alot better than the voice chat unreal came with.

Imo, those that want to use Mic should all use TeamSpeak. Nothing is better.

Does anybody know if this means I'm filtering the chat on the client side, or is the server not even sending the voice data at all? Because if it's the latter, I'll switch to it when the synch lag kicks in.

It looks like its not filtered Server side. Client still receive it. (You can see the ball flashing over the head of players.) And you still hear chunks of words...

Dont you just hate it when half way through a mic conversation, you are drowned out by Microsoft Mary or Sam for those of you who are politically correct . Well there is a setting in the User.ini to reduce or raise the TexToSpeechVolume.

In the User.ini under the heading [Engine.PlayerController] just after the keybinds is the setting TextToSpeechVoiceVolume, I have set mine to 0.400000. As UT2004 default settings are set so that TextToSpeech and Voice Chat drown each other out. As for players asking questions, well a quick rundown of what to do is inorder. If the questions are followed my more questions and guess what even more questions, then BotFodders Newby Guide is called for. I dont mind answering questions after all we were all new to the server at one time, what annoys me is when I'm asked a question then take the time to answer, and I am not listened to then a few mins later the same question is asked again

I have no issue with alittle chat going on. The real problem is when 1 or 2 players get going about something that has nothing to do with the game. A few nights ago I had to listen to a couple go on and on and on and on about servers and what was best and which did what!! Interesting I'm sure to those 2 but maybe not to the other 18 players. Not a huge problem as I see it but maybe something a few need to curb abit .

This is what all of us in DOF use. If there is more than one of us in the game we hop on our 24/7 TS server. It works great, uses almost no bandwidth, and you can chat spam away with your buddies.

good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun.

I think it would be strange playing with a bunch of people using TS when voice activation is on. Some kid starts getting excited and breathes hard and you can hear it on the voice chat.

Hopefully there is an option to disable voice activation.

You can disable it and/or set its threshold. Took me forever to find the fine line where I can watch a TV right next to my monitor without it setting it off. Putting your hand over the mic doesn't "scratch" it enough to set it off, and your hand covers it enough that talking no longer sets it off. Another nice choice, for command type settings, is setting different keys to whisper different people or groups. i.e "o" to talk to your squad leaders, "p" for gunners, "[" for the driver of your vehicle if your a gunner, etc.
