UT3: First Impressions (i.e. did your machine run it?)

Yeah, same for me.

My settings reset every time I open the program so it looks Doom-style.

I think it's part of the demo so that you can constantly play with the settings to see what plays best for your system.

No, my settings don't change either. I have the resolution set somewhere around 1048xsomething. I have the detail sliders all the way up as well. One thing I did notice, if you play the VCTF map, there is a chainlink fence on either end, right. Well, before, the colors on the fence were really wierd and you could see through to the other side. Now, I can see through the fence and it does seem to run smoother. It just looks pixelated or something. Doesn't look clean. I wish I could describe it better.

Could you try ye old 'Print Screen'-button-then-paste-in paint method?...My sliders are up on text and 1 on the world detail (anyone else had my vertical lines issue when world detail was high ?or Am I alone ..o.0 ?

Finally, I got to try the demo on my new pc.

Pushed everything to the max and no problems with lag and/or frame rate. Graphics are gritty and raw, as they should be for playing a first-person shooter (P.S. It's not supposed to be pretty--we got spoiled with the beautiful scenery on UT2003/4).

One thing weird tho--when I checked my framerate, I was running 35-40 fps in the DM and CTF maps. Isn't that kinda high, even with 8600GTs in SLI mode?

last week (before I fried my power supply because of it! LOL) I had 2 6800gt xxx edition xfx cards in sli and I played all game types and was doing a solid 58-60 fps. (there were times of between 40 and 55 , but mostely i was pegged at the 60 top end line.) Now I just cant wait for my ne psu to come. (I should have known better and been patient for the new psu, as it was only a 450 watt, man did it cook. "honey, whats that smell?" is not something you want to here. LOL)

well I got a new video card (ati2600xt 512 pcie)

only got to try a coupla minutes this morning got to go to work , but had everything maxed and it looks AWESOME runs smoothly .

now I can play this thing more impressions when I get online tonight :)

had to replace the wife's power supply cpla months back she turned it off one nite and the next morn nuth'n.....BOY was she PO"D!!!!

PS aint no way i'm gonna try to play UT3 not with a amd 1700+ and a radeon 7000 card!

Owie, that's sad to hear, Dom. Perhaps by the time you can upgrade, DC will have everything set up to play invasion on UT3.

Anyone buy the retail version yet? I'm curious to see if it runs any smoother than the beta.

I tried getting it today, but every store in my town has yet to get it in... so I'll be waiting for Amazon to deliver it next week.... but I've read some reviews and I haven't heard one bad thing about it.... well other than it's minimum requirements, but I hope the internet quirks are worked out.
