UT3: First Impressions (i.e. did your machine run it?)

WELL.....
Firstly to load the setup file took me over 5 hrs o_o...so i installed today...(that took 30 mins)

So well first thoughts..*oops i froze the computer....but thats cus i opened firefox by accident at same time..>_>..*
Ahem a right thoughts on game play....LOVE that legged mech thing..

..I sucks its not on the VCTF map..but wow its just awesome.

2ndly..hoveerboooards..^-^..very kool...but seriously..i get knock off by anything..link shot..FACE PLANT...shock shot..FACEPLANT....bug...FACEPLANT!....FACEPLANT..ok Im done..

Although its shocking u can still do a flag run on one of those alone..o.0..

Also graphics wise..after fiddling for aa loong time...2 things:
1. I cant run above lvl 1 of world detail or i get these nasty vertical lines oon the screen ESPICALLY the 2nd DM map...anyone else got that ?

2.SHOCK EXPLOSIONS!!

...So kool..yet..bad..cus..Im usually in them..

Game wise: like how the rapotrs are...the scorpian..drives diff than 04...but still kool....

OOH And tagged on to rapors on ur hoverboard.o_o..its like ur own like dive bomb crew to land on the base..(ok so if u fall u get some damage....and ur stunned..but still..3 ppl from the sky...o.0..

The vehicles spawn..nice....

Anyone know if theres a grenade launcher/spider mines?..

And yes my machine shockingly runs it....lvl 5 textures and very nice resolution......have to fiddle more but its very good

..Will have to play more online later or so..

I probably have one of the slowest rigs here:

P4 2.6GHz H/T
1 Gig of RAM
ATi Radeon 9800 Pro

I was able to run at something like 1064x768, I think it was. I had the advanced settings set all the way to the right. Everything still runs smoothly, but the graphics don't seem all that great to me. I think 2k4 looks better. I tried both instant action and played online. No problems either way. I'm wondering if my video card doesn't display some of the graphics or something because I really didn't think it looked all that great even at the resolution I was running and the advanced video setting sliders moved all the way up.

Well..I thought it actually looked..bad...when i moved my world etial tot he right..so i had to put ti down..removed the lines...also i increased my resolution form the 1064 to the nx highest multiple....i think...

And HEY! Ive got the same vid card....and ...only 2.99 GHz...so ..Im actually the same as you....about....well..less room left on his hard drive..>_>....
I think the vid card wont display as much which is why instead of crashing ..for me..it just gets worse...o.0..ur monitor also has an impact on it......also how high u ran 04 has impact too..

...I ran mine pretty normal....''faster map load times...

Also I always play gore off....cus :
a) I think it performs better
B) less distracting "oooh human heart..oooh..*HEAD SHOT*..crp..Dead Xp.--..ooh human heart..."and
C) well...my mom would look at the screen rllly weird like if she saw bodies being dismembered piece by piece.....so to protect her innocence..

OH! Another thing happened...when I first closed ut3....the desktop pic on my comp...undid itself..ie it reverted to the plain black background from b4...not that I have any quams with no backdrop..but my sister may..any ideas why this happened?

Learnt it when i was messing with some console commands in offline play...
Apparently the command loaded works..and apparently it cause you to have infinite redeemers...o_o (also apparent kill all pawns kills ur pawn as well.....weird....And if you do do console command u need to restart the game b4 u can play online

Heh..that hover board is a hoot..

..its tricks work on crouch and fire buttons and directional buttons..o_o..quite few thing u can do which are useful

Hint: Falling from height damage can be reduce(or canceled?) by crouching on the hover board previous to landing......u dont(may not?) fall off apparently if u land on lvl ground that is..o.0..well u mite if u do the fire button tricks..

..but yeah....not to vary too far off topic....

Well, up graded today with a p4 D 950 3.4 ghz dual core, 2 more gig's of duel channle ram. Ran much smoother with no crash for the hour I played (vctf and deathmatch online and off) with a solid 60-70 fps avg.

think I can buy it now and atleast know I'll be able to play...

Nice..thats about what i get on UT04..o.0....I get 30-10 FPS on ut3..

My computers running it fine. A little blurry because I'm pushing the limits again with the graphics, but otherwise I'm OK. Wish I could tell you what's in my comp, but to be honest I'm not really sure.

Does the game require directx 10 to run all the new graphics? My card uses directx 9 which is making me wonder why the game doesn't really look all that great.

It claims so I believe (may be mistaken so I'll have to double check)...It also suggests you update your drivers..which...I ...havnt..>_>......hmm....maybe I should...

No, I don't think it does. I use DirectX 9 as well and it's playing fine and looks good as long as I stay away from the absolute best graphics it has to offer. But Nvidia might release a new driver update soon for the directX9 to support the new games that are coming out like Hellgate:London, FEAR Purseus Mandate, and TimeShift. I'll check on it if anyones curious on that.

Oh yeeeah..It said it supports...but u need minimum of 9...oops....my bad...-_-....

Still suggested you update my drivers...which Im not entirely sure how to do.....Ah well..wing it..

Yeah, Nvidia has new drivers out, so go and update your drivers. It'll at least make it look a bit better I think. The last one really did for me with FEAR.

My impression is no.

Well, I dl'd the newest driver for my card. I was also able to mess around with some of the 3D rendering. I was able to get another 10fps, average, out of the game without lowering any settings. It looks a little better, but not what I have seen online videos. I know I'm not going to get exactly what they have since my card is older, but the graphics look like they are from a game older then UT2003.

Increase your in-game resolution and graphic detail. My settings reset every time I open the program so it looks Doom-style.
