We're pondering concocting a mod that causes no momentum for friendly fire. The idea being you couldn't be blown off edges by teammates, (or flak or shield gun, etc.)

What do you all think about this idea?

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

I only notice it on super weapons and the shield gun, but it would be a nice addition. On maps like Spacenoxx this would save MANY lives haha. Newer players aren't as crafty with the trans so many times they get knocked off by deemers, painters, etc.

Good idea. I think the fewer team deaths we get, the better.
At the moment, on some maps, a lot of people hold back on superweapons in case they blast people over the edge. This should allow them to use the weapons they have paid for.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeaze. I hate maps that you can fall off and this will help a lot.

I'd like to change my vote from neutral to completely against.

We were talking about this in game this evening, and Chloe had a very, very good point: the forces acting on your character from other players' weapons are part of a map's difficulty.

Intentionally shield gunning another player off a map is not part of this server.

Having a map that's difficult because of terrain is.

Should we eliminate all momentum from friendly fire, it will, with other changes we're making, make the game easy. Way, way, way too easy. Boringly easy.

The low level assistance is enough - perhaps too much already. Medics are going to be powered up in the next version in addition. LA players are going to be doing lots more damage. WM players will eventually get something as well.

We've upped the difficulty level and are now counteracting it piece by piece. Not good.

This is supposed to be a difficult but rewarding server. So let's make it difficult but rewarding!

I feel that if you do this it will stop many people form playing. I dont want to sound rude but it would make the server really kiddie like and I enjoy the way it is. When my clan guys and me started playign it was alot harder and the new guys just think that its hard casue they are just starting out like we all did long ago. I feel that if this happens many ppl will leave.

I think its perfectly fine how it is now. Thier would be no point playing the game if you didnt have a chance to get knocked off a map once an while. Ive maybe been knocked off 1 a month MAYBE. By taking that off, it would only add to the growing list thats making the server a lot more easier. When I first started and who ever else did that time too it was more challengeing. Thier were no medics. The LA players weren't out yet either. So it was what you got when you spawned with. If you didn't like what you got then too bad, look for a Magic Weapon Maker or get used to it.
I used to have a blast (pun intended) when I first started playing. The its not gotten easier just because ve leveled. Many things are contributing to the easiness of the server. So lets make it the was it was, challengeing an fun

It wouldn't have been a medic.

Medic weapons are already zero momentum.

My peace: difficulty is about the terrain and the monsters. Not the other players killing you (intentionaly or not).

I am in complete agreeance. Its starting to take less and less skill to play. If your on a map that people get "blown off" on then the player should make themselves a little more aware and prepare themselves for such incidents. Example: Romra Moon Station. It s a great map to play. Most people don't liken it because it is too small and too, dare I say this, challenging. Setup a trans in a decent spot if you think your going to get knocked off. Hit the crouch key when you see incoming super weapons. Majority of the time this will save you from falling off

You're not suppose to have it easy right off. After all this is an invasion RPG server. The more the player the more you get attributes that help you survive. But the real prize is learning to survive without all these extra rewards. That in-time makes you a better player because you better undestand the concepts of the game. Its has the server not done enough yet to make t easier by throwing all these new "classes" of players, which was a great diea to give the server more variety but now we're just babying the players that don't even understand how hard it use to be.

Changes like the one proposed will continue to throw the idea of a skillful player away and encourage not understanding the concepts of the game. Not to mention kinda a slap in the face of the map creators and why they created the maps, of course that is a whole other discussion...

I'm currently the only "+0 I like the idea but dont really care much." Recount that as a "dislike".

I understand that players want the difficulty to be challenging. Where I am failing is my understanding of why a player would want to inadvertantly kill another player.

alot of the "don't change it" posts above say (if I understand):

1. I had to live with it so you should too.
2. If you do X (where x= some action) then I won't "accidently" kill you.
3. I do not feel challenged with my high level character? (please note that ?)

To me, thats like saying to some one, well you know, I was going to fire the gun that way, you should have moved dude, sorry about the bullet hole, you should pay attention to which way im pointing it.

It's not that killing another player is a factor in anyone's mind while they're killing monsters.

The problem here is that removing momentum for all friendly fire would remove a significant amount of difficulty from all maps. Even when you don't get knocked off, or aren't even in a map where you could get knocked off, you're almost always being affected by this kind of thing, even when you don't really recognize it as such.

Part of playing UT is controlling your character - and losing that control. If you're fully in control of your character at all times without exception...bleh. Boring.

The very notion that you shouldn't fall off maps where falling off is a significant amount of the difficulty from terrain bothers me, to be entirely honest.

I haven't said anything, but I did vote yes for this... and now I'm swaying towards no. Moof is right about the maps, they're made like that for a reason and if people aren't fond of falling off they can either set a trans, or not vote for that map. It's just part of the game and now I think it should stay.
