Alice and the Hatter: Quotes: Alice in Wonderland
Alice: What a funny watch! It tells the day of the month, and it doesn't tell what o'clock it is!
The Hatter: Why should it? Does your watch tell you what year it is?
Alice: Of course not, but that's because it stays the same year for such a long time together.
The Hatter: …which is just the case with mine.

When I get a chance, I will be building my wife and I new systems. I'm still debating on whether I will keep my existing case or not. I like the look, but airflow sux. One thing I may be looking into are SSDs for both of us. We will see where that tech is by that time.

"Solid state drive"--they currently run between $450.00 to $600.00 each for 160gb drive. Extremely fast and no moving parts--life exectancy garanteed for 5 years (forget the number of hours). There will be a 320gb drive in the near future but expect the price per drive to be $800.00 and up.

Yup, a bit spendy, but I hope they will come down in price and up in size this year as they become more popular. But little heat, no noise...and Fast! Put that on the new SATA speed and just fly....

Nice. However, I would recommed that you go with DDR3 ram, else it could create a bottleneck since the processor/mobo/vid card are all DDR3.
Check your mobo specs to be sure.
Thanks Demon, I'll look into it!
...I checked the mobo specs, it's DDR2, so I'm good there.
Thanks DEMONSLAYER & Flack Monkey!

They look purty and have neat names. Outside that, I haven't a clue. There has been some pretty positive reviews but all cited problems with the factory bios setup for overclocking...............

yeah i noticed that also...but look'n at them and asus boards they look same cept use a diff color scheme for the mem slots and both have a software they give you for doing the over clocking which others don't. kinda makes me think their basically the same since sooo much of the boards are identical between the 2 brands....not too worried about the overclock'n tho.
but this system looks doable for my pockebook with taxes...need to change out the PS and maybe a diff case deffinatly the PS http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=FK536AAR&cat=SYS

Kinda looks good, but it's a refurbished 1.8 Ghz pc.
Take a look at these that seem to fit within your pocketbook (making assumptions that you can/will use your old os/monitor/keyboard/mouse)
http://computers.shop.ebay.com/PC-Desktops-/179/i.html?LH_Price=300..400@c&LH_PrefLoc=1&LH_FS=1&_nkw=amd%20phenom%20x4&_catref=1&_dmpt=Desktop_PCs&_fln=1&_mPrRngCbx=1&_sc=1&_sop=15&_sticky=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m283
I like this one since all you would need is the monitor......

Dang been look'n for some reveiws of the biostar a770e3 mb that fry's has bundled with a athlonII x4 620 chip for 80 bucks after a 10 buck rebate and thats all i find is that ad everywhere!
need to get taxes and then pay some stuff off and convince the wife to let me spend some of it for puter parts! might just have to get a pre-paid card and stash some cash on it every now and then to buy parts.
wife was all for it at 1st when was talk'n but it but she has a 3 ghz system that just needs a new HD and then she shut down about me build'n a new one. was gonna pass the old puters down to kids but i can buy 1 set of cheap upgrade for less than build a complete new for her...but maybe i should do it for her she just pays bills surf's craig's list and does e-mail and facebook, i'm the one that does the backup copies of movies!
