That's a very scary thought...

No doubt! I live in Green Bay (insert Packer Jokes here) , but I was born in San Diego. Only snow down there happens on the Grape Vine near LA. I was raised in Northern CA in the foothills of the Sierras and we got snow every once in a while. But they closed I80 just up the road so I got to see the traffic backed up as I sip coco on my porch. But worse is some places get even a trace of snow, the entire town shuts down (southern states mostly) due to the fact they dont have any snow removal equipment. Plus, people cant drive in it, dont know how. Of course, people around here have seen too many Jeep commercials and think they can just plow down the road in any weather. And they are the first ones we see in the ditch the first day of snow on the roads.

Definitely! Utah doesn't shut down when it snows and we're in the desert!

I'd prolly fit into that catergory.

Never gotten stuck, but me and one of my friends always go out and have some fun doing some drift turns in the snow. Just gotta get a good angle going on the turn, smack that e-brake, DRIFFFFFFFT, and go. Mad hilarity ensues if you bounce off the curb.

Many don't drive well when it is dry out, so I shutter at the thought if it snowed in the Bay Area or in L.A. Saw a lot of snow up in the Sierras, though. The deepest I was ever in up there was about five feet of snow. Utah drivers just assume it is not slippery and just tailgate you and drive fast in the middle of a snowstorm.

I'm from the Cleveland area. Snow's no sweat, right?

Our new office manager is from Montana. Same for her.

I tried to explain to her what would happen the first time we're forecast to get 1" of snow, no accumulation. Every store within 20 miles will be sold out of toilet paper and milk, and if it actually does fall, there will be hours of rush hour backups on the Beltway.

...I'm not sure she entirely understood.

Do I smell a snow mod for the server?

Sounds cool. Reminds me that I need to dig out my xsnow program. I run *NIX (X11 on NetBSD and Fedora Core), and almost all the time, I have a static image which is either an astrophotograph (I currently have the crab nebula up) or a pic of my best friend, who has been so helpful these past few months when a certain someone else has been a um-hm. But for the month of December, I have typically run xsnow.

BTW... I have worked emergency services too many winters, and hate it when a winter storm hits if I have had to go out in it. But I love snow, especially if I can sit inside and look out at the world after a fresh snow fall out in the country. Not here in Columbus though. I am very much a country boy, and and if I could have three wishes, one wish would be to have a huge place (160+ acres , 2500+ sq. ft house) in a very rural section of the midwest, with broadband and a wonderful view from a couch by a fireplace (perfect for cuddling up to that extra special someone). I have an area I have been looking at that a few of you may know from my blogs. But to say the least, the area I am thinking of has 1/10 the population density of the area where the house I grew up and will be inheriting is, and so has much darker skies, etc. As for the other wishes...

Oh, and for those of you who love web cams and snow, here are some web cams to keep an eye on. My Uncle Bob and Aunt Nancy live in Cheyenne, where they get so much snow at times, the onramps have gates to prevent folks from getting on the interstates. Web cams for that area can be found here. Of particular interest would be the I-80 summit just west of Cheyenne, which is where the highest point on the transcontential RR was some time back, and is marked with a huge stone pyramid monument which you sometimes see in SUV or jeep commercials!

HAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA MUUUUUHAHAHAHAAH.

You don't know SNOW until you see what i got out side. It snowed over 2 feet from the time that I got off of work last night. We already had close to 3 feet on the ground. You want to know the best part?

No schools were closed. There were no fatal accidents. Tow trucks made a few bucks pulling people out of ditches. No flights were canceled (a few delays due to de-icing) and life generaly went on.
