Ah, I didn't say that I was up and running. When this started, it was supposed to be a easy upgrade since I had already bought all of the minor parts (case/drives/etc) for my future I7 build and it was a way to get some storage space back and get some usage of the new items as I just needed the motherboard, processor, and more RAM. This upgrade from the 680i/QX6700 to the 780i/QX9650 has turned into a long running nightmare.
I've had everything go wrong that was possible and it's not over yet. Currently, when you turn the system on, everything is running but no post, no screen, no nothing. I have tested the RAM, video cards, etc and still get nothing. So tired of it that I threatened to pull all motherboard components, sell them, and start going for the I7 set-up despite the cost. I have taken the pc to a shop to have them test ALL components and find out why it's not working since they do have the tools to do the testing.
I have found that it is easier to do a brand new build than to upgrade, especially in the area of motherboards. There is not a whole lot of new motherboards on the market for the older stuff (680i/780i/790i) and the refurbished route is a joke. Processors and other motherboard items are ok but still expensive in terms of cost comparisons to the newer stuff.
I thought I labeled the pics but didn't. Went back and labled.

Rule 1:
Never presume new equipment will work. Bench build it so you know it works before you take the time putting it in the case.
Stop the press! 9!?!? You need 9 SATA ports? What are you runnin' in there?
I hope to build a new system some day. At this rate, the 4 core i7s will be all 6 core and the latest and greatest will be 8 with a 20nm process. Guess time will tell. Will definitely be water cooled as I want to continue to use this case, but it has horrible ventilation. I don't know if I will go SLI yet. The whole compatibility with games thing..and I'm not that much of a freak about frame rates.

2 Sony SATA optical drives

2 SATA cables to the Flash card reader
As to the bench testing, that's what I pay the pc shop for..............
