Where I've been

I finally graduated last month! It's been crazy for the past couple of months, especially near the end of the quarter. I was nervous about having all my ducks in a row, but it all turned out fine. After I finished with school I moved and here I am... job hunting in an economic recession. I think I'd rather visit the dentist several times a week instead, but what you gonna do?

I too feel very uneasy with this current state of the union. I'm nervous about my own job. If I loose it, my wife wants to move south to get out of the snow and cold that is Wisconsin. Time will tell...

But in all seriousness, I wonder if anyone has ever put WOW stats on their resume? (and they were applying somewhere that's NOT Blizzard)

Right now, it's tough for everyone. Here in Colorado, job fairs advertising 200-300 (service) jobs are getting mobbed by hundreds of job seekers. My wife and I (we're both state employees) are looking at the loss of salary/COLA increases and a day per month furlough and we are one of the lucky ones!!!!!!

Carnegie Mellon has a top to bottom salary freeze, and any hires (even backfills of open positions) or promotions are taking signatures almost up to the president of the university, if not including him (something like 6+ levels, depending on position). Thankfully, my group has had funding essentially paid ahead for a year or two, I am not quite nervous about loosing my job, but finances were extremely tight, even before you figure in what I was supposed to pay up through June from the divorce, and what the ex is not paying which she was supposed to be paying (e.g. a $600/mo van payment). But at least I have a job!

I'm-a sellin my big fatty 4 year-old computer on ebay and buying a new one, so hopefully I'll be able to finally get some more action on the server! My old one has lost the performance edge it once had due to newer software.
