I'd like to see a feature for the engineer class where when an engineer intentionally despawns a turret, it instagibs its occupant with no possibility of ghost.

This would be helpful in dealing with players who insist on following around engineers with the sole intent of stealing their turrets the moment they hit ground (*cough*bond_slayer*cough*). At least after having despawned the turret (and killing the turret thief in the process), I could rebuild my turret and jump inside before the next wave begins.

It's just an idea.

While I share you turret stealing pain....
Team-killing as a skill isnt gonna be ok'd I think..
Just try to get inside as soon as you can..failing that the ol' destroy and rebuild away from them will have to work....

You could always try reasoning with them....ie...if you die the turret dies so even if they steal it instead of 1 dead person they are 2....but then again..>_>
(or wait till they die of natural causes ..)

I agree with Caz. I was there when the un-named player would steal the turrent. He was asked very politely to get out and refused.

When this happens, perhaps the offending player should be banned for the duration of the map.

I've noticed this happening a lot on the weekends and some other undesirable behavior (working around chat filter,and just being a pain)
and we have tried kick voting but we have a much higher player count on the weekend (lotsa n00bs to the server) and many are reluctant as they don't see/understand whats happening.

you know Caz you should talk to Bosporus players seem to love his turrets he's always losing his turrets when he gets out to heal them
personally I've also seen some spawn a another turret for that player (thanks Jackoneer) but this is not always possible (level restrictions)

is there a way to contact one of the admins during these times ? it'd be a quick solution...

Hmm...Kick vote was a thought too...But I guess if that fails they may be need for alternative methods...

Maybe instead of 'kill' charm you may want a 'kick the occupant out my turret ' charm....
Which...well....kicks occupants out of desired turret...like eject....except with more forward velocity and no turret death....
Call it a 'Get out!' charm....

Or maybe a way to change a turret from a 'free for all' to a owner only? In which any other player inside at the turret would get kicked out and it would be locked...

Unlock/lock system?

Any of these ideas likely?

no I still think we should encourage engineers to build turrets for other players (they get xp for its damage right ?)

I like the eject charm idea would have to have a big wet POP sound for it

No they only get xp for boosting turrets directly (by which it doesnt include healing time..)
The turrets that others like Jack give are just generosity...no xp...

And my idea wasnt completely giving the engineer the turret..but rather giving them 'keys' so to speak..to lock and unlock..
Though I do pref my eject button better...

Yes that´s right RoadKill, I love my turret because I waited 30 levels (you can use your first minigun turret at level 30), 30 levels of pain, walk around get some weapons and ammo to kill some monsters and get xp to level up. And then you can use this turret at lvl 30 but there comes another player and jumps in, hmm thats not ok.
The first times I played here, I saw people building walls, sentinels and turrets and I said to myself thats interesting but I never jumped into a turret.
Maybe he asked me if he can use the turret or he is linking it many waves then its ok, but it´s the same as like I´m going to weapon masters and ask them: "can you give me your best weapon?";
Another reason is that you get as engineer vampirism and health points only by the turret or vehicle and that is very important at higher waves.
The first times I got very angry about people jumping in my turret but now I´m taking it easier, ask him friendly if I can get my turret back and if not I destroy it.

This works sometimes :

Make a really neat, tall wall right in front of the turret, so he can't shoot a thing. He jumps out, you kill the wall and jump in yourself. It is a bit of work if he is jumping in every time you jump out for repairs...

But in 90% of times, it works if you ask/explain nicely

A possible solution: the freshly spawned turret/vehicle could be locked untill the owner jumps in and out. Would work for spawn-thiefs but not repair-thiefs.

I knind like the ejection seat idea. It would be cool to see the offending player flying through the air after ejection from the engineer's turrent.

I like the wall idea...It takes less time to build after a wall
It seems that some of the players that are doing this won't even respond to messages which led me to believe that they don't speak the same language, don't know how to respond, or don't play with sound on and don't notice messages addressed to them.
The last two could be remedied by adding a comment to the player agreement:
"Please be considerate to other players. Understand that some players can spawn vehicles, and that stealing these vehicles from players ruins the game for those players."

I would also wonder if the players stealing turrets even understand where the turrets come from. It is possible that they think that they are part of the map and it's first come first serve...(I don't think this was the case for bond-slayer though.)
