Has anyone else seen this show? I can see why Oprah made such a big deal over it... it's incredible! I watched a couple of recorded episodes and wow. I've never seen a bird of paradise do a mating dance or emperor penguins huddle together in a giant clump to stay warm. The footage they had of a polar bear was so sad! It couldn't find food
Seriously though, if you or someone you know gets Discovery HD, watch it! The image quality is amazing.

Yes!!! It's amazing, I can't imagine it in high definition. I've been watching it steadily and have recorded each episode as well. But so far I love the first documentary on that dancing bird. Ooo and the snow leopard that has only been filmed hunting during this show. Once this comes out to dvd I'm going to buy it, by far my favorite and most incredible documentary I've ever seen! I think next week is it's last two parts of 11... Sundays 8 to 11 (eastern) on Discovery... well worth watching!

I have to agree, this doc is great! We've DVR'ed all of them 'cause us old folks end up falling asleep before the second show starts (LOL), but man, not because the content is boring in the l least. I , too, really liked the snow leopard shot. (The cats were watching with us, I think they all now believe they must do the whole mountain hunting thing. Hanging on to the side of the furniture and pouncing the next unsuspecting creature, be it human or feline, that comes along. Rarrrr. LOL)
The Borneo Expidition is good to, if you get a chance to catch it.

I havnt been watching it regularly. Usually in bed at 7, but I played on DC till 8 last night.
I love the show, and wouldnt mind watching all the episodes. Always enjoyed the nature shows and this one has some incredible footage. And yes, I do remember Blue Planet.
I cought the 8pm show last night...the bird "swarms" were just...awsome.

Only if 17 is old. The show is awesome! The huge numbers of some of these animals is....mind boggling. Like the miles long locust swarms, "ocean soup" filled with jellyfish, and huge herds of caribou that can only be seen in their entirety if you are in the air.
The elephant hunt in this sunday's episode was really cool, it reminds you of a sci-fi/horror in some small way, all the lions chasing and jumping on the elephant and gnawing away. Nature beat you to it once again, hollywood!

Our cats do that regardless if we are watching a documentary. We call it 'king of the ottoman.'
I am so bummed and perplexed by the fact that the university doesn't offer the Discovery channel. I think we get animal planet... but blah.

I was awed and fascinated by the Blue Planet series that Discovery aired several years back, so I was very excited when I saw the previews a few weeks ago for Planet Earth.
I've been DVRing them each week. Each episode has been wonderful. One of my favorite highlights from the show so far has been the little monkeys walking upright, wading through the water. Also, the hunter vs. hunted footage has been amazing.
I haven't watched yesterday's episodes yet but plan to do so tonite.
If anyone hasn't seen the show yet, check it out for sure!

Yah, it is pretty cool. I've already ordered the series on blu-ray I only get the standard Discovery Channel so I'm looking forward to seeing it all in high def with surround sound.

The other thing that is cool is the series on DVD/HD-DVD/blu-ray will have Sir David Attenborough narrating it. Probably be a little better then Sigourny Weaver. I don't have anything against her, but Attenborough is a cool narrater.

Definately, I watched a video narrated by him and he seems more interested in what he's talking about. Sigourny is good, but I do like the style of Sir Attenborough a bit more.

Yeah, they finished airing the series here a couple of weeks back. I watched all of them, and yes, some of the shots were trully spectacular.
Apparently it took over 4 years to shoot the series.

Yeah I'm looking to get the set for my Dad for father's day. It would be cool to get the HD version, but first I would need to buy a HD player.... which is impossible because I'm broke at the moment
