got it installed but crank'n the sound settings up in UT made it slow and jittery to a point...probably help if I had a faster cpu...wait do I need to do a reinstall to make the game see the vid card accurately? it is better playing since I installed the card but never messed with reinstall/setup of game for vid hmmmm

would help also if I had speakers other than the 2 I have hehe

Has nothing to do with the video card and you should not have to re-install UT--check your setting in the UT setup menu

, I have a motherboard for my desktop pc. I managed to find and pickup a new Asus Striker II Formula--haven't paid for it as yet but at least I can breathe easier since I went the refurbished route and that didn't pan out.

Tiger Direct was great on refunding my payment for the refurbished Evga 780i FTW that didn't work. About the only 780i boards that I could find on the net were either used or refurbished and just by chance, I just happened to run across this new, open-box offering. It does have all of the usual retail parts, just opened.

I just hope that it works.................playing on a laptop is not fun when you have a disabled desktop!!

So, my upgraded system will be the Striker II Formula 780i board, liquid cooled QX9650 processor, 2 Evga GeForce 9800 GT video cards in SLI, 80GB SSD for the OS disc, 3TB (4-750GB WD Caviar Black HDs) for storage, and 8GB of Corsair Dominator PC8500 RAM with a ram cooler and 2 DVD R/W optical drives, all shoved into a Thermaltake Armor+ case.

Cool. Glad to hear you will be back rock 'n rollin soon. I'm still scoping out the web for a good deal on a replacement vid card. Lost out on 2 already (got outbid). Got 2 more lined up in a few days. Wish me luck.

I'm getting a lot of photoshop time in, but that only goes so far.

Well, I scored a used ASUS 7600 GS. More than I wanted to pay for it, but I kept loosing out on ebay. the BFG 7800s were going cheap, but they were still more than I was able to pay. And all the new ones are from unrecognized or un-divulged makers that I'm not willing to gamble with. So, I hope to be back in the game within a week.

Now my monitor is on the fritz as well, keeps clicking (its the horizontal width control. It keeps clicking as if it was changing resolutions. Sometimes it goes wide then narrow or just keeps clicking) I'm waiting for that shoe to drop any day now. Then I really will be in deep doodoo. Bad enough my DVD drive dumped on me a few months ago during studies. If I dont have a monitor, I'm going to die.

well um how old is your tv? you can always plug it into that
