The 8800 GT's are the best deal right now. I had UT3 running with full post processing, decent texture detail and 1900x1200 res (still playing with it though).

The game looks completely different when you have the graphics turned up.

I'm pretty much stuck with the 8600GTs I currently have for time being, but I've been hearing a lot of good things about the 8800s. Nice going, Continuum. Keep us posted on the card's overall performance.

However, I started this thread to get all players to talk about their current and future dream rigs along with discussion of the various components as well as upgrades. The reason for this was to help players plan their upgrades/new PCs for UT3/Halo 2/Crysis/etc. and have some place to go and get opinions, ideas, suggestions, and whatever that would be a deviation from the subject on the other threads I've started.

I have seen what it should look like , I can turn my graphics up to that point, unfortunately the game hitches and averages at 12 fps at 1024 768 with the world detail and textures at 2 or 3

for the big warfare matches it also drops to too little to play effectively when you get like 2 or 3 death walkers on the screen firing.

I have been seriously considering an ageia physics card as well.......

From whats been said an extra core on your cpu would give more performance than the ageia card. Might not be the case down the road but right now no one has really put much into taking advantage of the card. Also from the demo's ageia recorded it actually looked worse than without out it imo (really boxy chunks floating/bouncing when something was destroyed or shot) even the karma engine from utkx looked better to be honest.

I will take a look into it. I based my opinion on an article from anandtech that was general in nature, but expounded the improvements for UT3 in paticular.

New card came in last night. Got it in with a lot of trouble.

I had to move both my hard drives and cabling to make room for the longer card. The card also requires an additional power hookup.

I had some driver difficulties after that, 4 hours later, I had the new card up and running without a hitch.

UT 3 is gorgeous on the highest settings. At 1440 by 900 I pull a solid 50 frames through most of the worst of the action.

Thanks for the advice guys, I appreciate the help in choosing a new card.

Well, Nvidia just acquired Ageia so it'll be standard on their new cards I'm sure! Giddy up!

I'm sure that we will see what they intend to do. There is a lot of emerging tech in the graphics industry right now. Either way, competition is good for us.
