Stephen: Stephen is my name. I'm the most wanted man on my island, except I'm not on my island, of course. More's the pity.
Hamish: "Your island"? You mean Ireland?
Stephen: Yeah. It's mine.
Hamish: You're a madman.
Stephen: I've come to the right place then! |

I'm skeptical... they have an odd security certificate for one thing.

The privacy statement makes me wonder. I can't imagine why Microsoft wouldn't be able to run this shindig themselves. Although, the company involved is in Washington and according to the ascentium website they are a 'Microsoft gold certified partner' (whatever that means)

Absolutely nothing?
My best guess is that it's something like one of those ipod pyramid schemes. I think it mentions something about signing up for offers... etc.
The only credit I give it is that microsoft hasn't knocked it off line yet. Any site talking about giving out vista or office would be pretty high on their list I'd think. I'll give it a try if the website would work (must be hosted on a windows machine *snicker*snicker*).

I believe it was actually legit. But its showing "sold out" now so might as well not even bother. Unless you're trying to learn more about Vista and Office 2007, but you're not going to get your free copies anymore.

For someone who is interested, I have a extra copy of Vista RC1. The set consists of 2 DVD's, 1 for 32 bit machines and 1 for 64 bit machines, and the product key. The product key works for both DVDs and you can load the OS up to 10 pcs. If you are interested, pm me with your address and I'll mail it to you.

Oh I dunno - maybe because they're 3 years late. Or because half the software they had to rewrite has been criticized as being worse than it was in the 95/98 days. Or because they've already screwed up and given the wrong version to business customers (who are the first to get their hands on it; Consumers get it Jan 31, 2007). Or...

That's news to me. Then again, I don't keep up with vista. No one I know (myself included) is planning to upgrade anytime soon.

The only reason I was thinking about the upgrade to Vista was for Halo 2. But not at $400.00 for the full OS.

Demon, do you think they may block the rc1 and the keys attached? Mirosoft seems to be all about this valadiating their os registration, even with the windows update. I'm currently running xp 64 bit, its only 6 mo evaulation copy.. I know a lot about setting time limits on software I program, but I'm sure they have some way of checking it as soon as the comp boots, espicially with DSL or even encripted software code. I'm all for vista but I just think they're rushing it too fast, and I know they haven't completed everything needed for the major os upgrade as they claim. That's why they're giving it away for free, so the poeple that want it that bad.... coder's and not, we're all still going to be beta testers, w/o them admitting it. Send me your copy though, we'll see how this goes, and I'll go down with the ship.
