you will never be able to get everyone to suicide to end the map... there will always be 1 or 2 holdouts who are like "no I wanna play"

Yeah i agree with what Dom and Dyers said. The percent should be increased a bit higher. It has also happened to me several times in which a load of low level players vote and cause a sudden vote. Why not have different percentages of map votes for different levels? So some sort of hierarchy. Because as said before people are abusing map voting.

Raising the map vote percentage to 75 (requiring at least 3 out of 4 players to vote) or above would help. However using the score weighting option of mapvote would cause its own problems - in that not everyone would have an equal say on maps. Many of the high-scoring players prefer maps that are difficult for low level players to score on, so it would be tougher to get newbie friendly or even just a variety of maps into play.

I have a habit of voting/choosing the least played maps to make a change because everyone keeps voting for the same OLD _ _ _ _ maps and never play others! I believe that's why when I vote that way and not a large vote goes for a diff map the server picks mine most times

Well it would be nice if Dru or Shan took a look a the map addition forum and picked a few new ones. Been a year since the last batch were added.

I think, to get equal time on the maps, is to vote to the next map in sequence and not a new map of choosing... Think all the maps should be played in a sequence till the list is went through, then it starts over. If we think a map is lame or just not very playable, then it should be commented on for removal in the forum.

there are a lot of playable maps that people dont choose because they are used to a certain set of the same maps over and over again and never choose other maps to play! I admit some of the maps SUCK!! (all fall off the dam map ones to be precious!) but some are doable even for that fault! its just ppl just become creatures of habit and pick maps they like to play and play them and not others but that gets into the i'm billy bad butt and other attitudes but when change maps to something they not used to its a diff story!
now the in sequence map play will get you the thing of ppl join'n and quitting because of a certain map is started, from "I don't like this map attitude"
NOW one fix for this map vote problem is to let ppl vote to change maps but that they have NO CHOICE on the next map! and if they vote to change maps multi times when in a certain time frame it locks the vote out and they get stuck on that map!
HEY!!! I really like that idea!!! DRU and SHAN and/or SZLAT please see what it would take to do that!
I would suggest that after 3 rapid map changes the map vote gets shut off for at least 2 maps. Of course stipulations for lack of players and losing the map!

Your ideas are kind of complicated dom, and what's more they'd require modifications of the basic map vote system. There are a few map vote mods out there, maybe some of them can do what you have in mind.
A simple solution to map overplay is to increase the repeat limit - the number of maps that must be played before a map can be voted for again. The repeat limit on DC is 75 and covers all maps in all game types. I don't know how many maps there are on DC, but scrolling through the map vote list in normal INV, 75 appears to be between 10 and 15% of the total list for that gametype. Afaik this value was not increased the last time maps were added, and the more maps there are on the server, the higher the value should be - at least if you're interested in encouraging a variety of maps to be played. Something like 30% to 40% would be appropriate. It could be set higher, but that creates problems too - complaints about no good maps to play, and as you mentioned, people not wanting to play because 'their' maps aren't available.

Gotta be a happy medium somewhere. Many times I sort the maps by times played and choose the lower count ones as there are several I havnt got to play yet.
And there are a few that don't work...the server crashes when they run.
Overloard and one other that I cant think of, but hey are right next to each each other in the list for ....wine is taking over my brain... not onslaught but....monster assault.

The last count I had was in the neighborhood of a thousand or so. I think there was a comment that it would take a year to play all of the maps available on the server, for all types (inv, vinv, mas, etc.).
So, if we delete the map vote, we might see our favorite maps once or twice a year...........Dru, Shan, and Szalat have too many other things to do to think about recoding some type of alternative map vote and even then, some players would still not like it. To me, either the players come to some sort of agreement in regards to map voting during a map (where the problem lies) or no vote at all............ My preference would to leave the map vote system alone and not change maps just because {excuse}.

Assuming 1000 maps at 20 a day (average of 1.2 hours per match): 50 days for a full cycle. Not quite a year. But I agree with your point, without map vote you'll almost never see your favorite maps, and it would be safe to assume that the server would be far less populated, and you'd see a lot of mass in-game suicides just to move the map list along.

Their may be 1000 maps on the server, but not in each game type. all the ONS maps are not available for INV...
That said, look at what is available in each game type that can be played and not the sum of all of them.
Oh, and the average time to complete 16 waves in INV is 30-35 mins.
