We have a winner for the name............

Carter Nicholas

My wife came up with Carter, and I like it too. Nicholas is after her father.

2 months to go!

The last 72 hours have been very stressful.

Carter Nicholas was born on Monday evening. All was normal until my wife got ready to start pushing. I had been with my older son in the cafeteria when they rushed me back to her room. There were about 8 docs and nurses in the room when I got up there and I knew something was wrong. Almost immediately the doctor said she needed an emergency c-section. The baby's heart rate was at 260.

After the c-section they took Carter to the nursery. His heart rate would not come down. They ended up taking him to our local Childrens hospital by ambulance.

He is in the ICU getting great care. He has a heart condition called SVT. It's where his heart has extra electrical connections, causing the heart rate to spike. They have it fairly stable at this point with meds.

Luckily my wife was able to get transferred to a hospital connected to the Childrens hospital so we can be near Carter.

Hopefully the rest of the week will be better.

Alice: What a funny watch! It tells the day of the month, and it doesn't tell what o'clock it is!
The Hatter: Why should it? Does your watch tell you what year it is?
Alice: Of course not, but that's because it stays the same year for such a long time together.
The Hatter: …which is just the case with mine.

You will be in my prays Elec. We had a simlular situation, my daughter was only 32 weeks along when they hospitalized her with Pre-eclampsia, her BP was so high and she was swollen so much, they put her on bedrest in the hospital but each day her protein level would rise and her BP would get worse. They gave her all the meds they could but the only thing left to happen would be for her to have a seizure. So they rushed her over to the University hospital Tuesday afternoon and she had her c-section that early evening. She should get to come home this weekend, but babies will be in NICU for weeks since they were 7 weeks early.
Please keep us posted on ur new one. best of luck.

Quick update.

My son is still in ICU. He continues to have spikes in his heart rate. The doctor has decided to add a new medication to work in concert with the one he is currently taking. My wife and I remain optomistic that the new meds will allow him to come home soon.

It is heart-breaking to not have your child be able to come home. Looking around the NICU, however, we feel blessed that our son is doing better than some other babies with much more complicated issues. I feel guilty and sad over this reality.

I am hopeful that Carter will be able to come home in the next week or so. One day at a time.

Here are a couple of the only pics I have of him.
